As we enter week 7, this season feels a bit strange don’t you think? We have a 6-0 team but I wouldn’t consider them far and away the best team in the league. We also have a squad that just picked up their first win to move to 1-5, but I wouldn’t consider them the worst roster in the league either. Then we have a 4-2 team with the second fewest points scored. What that tells me, is that anybody can play, and ANYONE can win.
On to the recaps!
RECAP
Honorable mention matchup – GWW completes courageous comeback against Thunder 138-134
Things looked bleak for Galen until about 630pm EST Sunday evening. In a 30 minute window Galen got a touchdown from James Cook (25) and TWO touchdowns from dart throw Tre Tucker (22) to get this matchup back in striking distance. After a shaky and nonexistent first half, Jayden Daniels (25) picked up the pace to hand the Thunder back-to-back Monday night losses. It feels good to get your first win!
For the second straight week, the Thunder slowly watched their lead evaporate before their eyes. Last week it was the Bills secondary who could not slow down Stafford. This week it was the 49ers falling asleep in the second half and letting the Commanders make it a game. If we learned anything, do we really expect to win when a defense scores zero points (Colts)? You can’t.
WINNERS
ICECAPS – 143
This was a long time coming. Finally putting one in the win column in the last month, Jack put up the highest scoring point total in a win against Tim. With Caleb Williams (19) back and compliments Likely (19) and Swift (20) making an impact, this team survived Derrick Henry (5) and his poor performance. Things are trending up.
MISFITS – 140
Carried by Allen, Shough, Nabers, and CMC, these four alone combined for 98. That leaves the rest of the sorry lineup with 42. The positives? Ben is the defending champion and is now 6-0 to start this season, clearly making him the favorite this season, no? I’m not convinced.
GWW – 138
Galen finally broke through in the win column this week in the aforementioned write-up earlier. Also as I alluded to in the opener, despite the 1-5 record, this is not the worst team in the league. But I will say this team has the worst luck so far.
SANDSTORMS – 126
Purdy, Maye, and K9 combined for 80 points, leaving the rest of the roster averaging single-digits. While not impressive, there is an argument that this is one of the best rosters in the league. When you have Purdy, Maye, Bijan, and K9.. maybe there is no argument.
PRAIRIE DAWGS – 123
The roster, while unimpressive, showed signs of life. Tuten and Hubbard each scored over 20, and kicker Tyler Bass scored 18. This team has the least points scored through six weeks, yet is sitting at .500 at 3-3. We can only wonder what Galen’s record would be if he had Nick’s schedule and Nick had Galen’s schedule. I’ll tell you, Galen would be 4-2 with Nick’s schedule and Nick would be 2-4 with Galen’s schedule.
LOSERS
THUNDER – 134
This team doesn’t feel or look very good. When you have to roll out Dameon Pierce and Blake Corum in the running back slots can we really feel good about this team? After suffering back-to-back Monday night losses, this team sits at 2-4. More bad news – the Dawgs await the Thunder this week and guess who Nick is starting at quarterback? Dak Prescott who plays… You guessed it, Monday night.
AVALANCHE – 113
Stafford (20), and Taylor (22)… end of list. Seven starters scored less than 12. This team has been quietly consistent though, scoring over 127 every week (with the exception of this week). Sitting at 3-3, this middle of the pack team could certainly make a splash in the coming weeks.
HSG – 106
Eight starters scored less than projections and the only two that did? Cam Little – projected 8.7 (10) and the Patriots defense – projected 9.8 (11). Not very good. There’s more bad news. DaVante Adams is out a couple months and Mike Evans may be out as well. What started as one of the stronger receiver rooms will now be headlined by Zay Flowers and … Chris Godwin Jr.? Yikes.
PIRANHAS – 105
This team is the epitome of hot and cold, hot and cold. The last five weeks for this squad has been 81, 149, 111, 164, 105. Who is this team? I don’t know. Matthew Golden (18) and the Chiefs defense (19) were the lone bright spots. Maybe next week is different. Or maybe it’s not because if trends continue this is a “score over 140 week”.
SQUATCHES – 87
Everglade Squatches? More like where can I find the nearest hospital? They may be 4-2 but have the second fewest points scored through six weeks, probably most in part due to the injuries this team has sustained. Achane – out for the year with a torn ACL. Jalen Hurts – now out for the year with a blood clot in his calf. McLaurin is now out for the year with a torn patellar tendon. Wait, we’re not done. Barkley, Monangai, and now Romeo Doubs have all missed weeks or WILL miss upcoming weeks. With that said the ten starters he did roll out did not get injured and played the entirety of their respective games and scored 87 points. Shoutout to the schedulers because if Ezra had Galen’s schedule through six weeks? Ezra would be 1-5.
