Let’s just say there were a few players running wind sprints in starting lineups this weekend – leading to a lot of zeros across the board. In all ten starting lineups, there were 12 total players that scored one point or less! WILD!
Week 8 Highlights!
WINNERS
PIRANHAS – 175
The Piranhas had a league high (and season high) 175 points to get back to .500. Burrow (49), along with Braelon Allen (25), and Bowers (22) were almost enough to take out the Thunder themselves. Perhaps the Piranhas have found something stringing together back-to-back wins.
GWW – 170
Also scoring a season high, GWW handled a late comeback attempt by the Icecaps Monday night. Irving (23), the Tampa Bay defense (21), and newly acquired Michael Wilson (21), proved to be a huge difference in GWW earning their second win of the season. Is this the start of a positive second half?
PRAIRIE DAWGS – 131
Let’s go Sam Darnold! Darnold (21) helped complete the comeback against the Sandstorms as the Dawgs (against all odds) continue to put themselves into the playoff mix. Could Tuten (29) and Hubbard (20) be the new best RB duo in the league? Not sure, but Nick took that personally. Nick even had five starters score less than eight points.
AVALANCHE – 117
Outside of Mahomes (31) and Higgins (31), this team had nothing notable. Six starters scored in single digits as the Avalanche also keep themselves in the playoff mix. Also once mentioned as the best RB duo in the league, Jeanty and Taylor combined for 11 points. We can (probably) put that to rest.
MISFITS – 113
We want to talk about against all odds – this team is 7-1 and the lineup they put out this week included Samaje Perine (3), and blank kicker and defense positions. Yet they still won against HSG. Maybe we should start talking more about this being the first team to win Back-to-Back Championships?
LOSERS
ICECAPS – 155
Darn you yahoo schedulers! Cousins (35), Swift (27), and the Pittsburgh defense (23) led an otherwise impressive week despite the loss to GWW. While it would have been a crazy start, Cam Ward (31) over Caleb Williams (16) would have completed an epic comeback. But I can’t fault Jack for starting Williams over Ward. Just a tough break.
SANDSTORMS – 128
“We aren’t serious right now”. Oh, but we are Logan. A late Colston Loveland fumble led to a Sam Darnold touchdown and now the Sandstorms are 4-4. Maye (26), Pollard (26), and the Jaguars defense (24) were excellent starts, but it was one starter who directly held this team back from taking the win. That player was Michael Penix Jr. 125 yards and four interceptions later, the -0.40 points glaring on the starting QB slot will drive anyone mad.
THUNDER – 116
Step 1 – Trade for Omar Cooper Jr. after consecutive weeks of 100 plus yards and a touchdown. Step 2 – Watch the Jets scored 35 points and have over 300 yards of total offense. Step 3 – Look at box score and realize Omar Cooper Jr. did not even had a SINGLE target. The guy was just out there running wind sprints on the field! Step 4 – Move on to week 9 because the rest of the team wasn’t great either.
SQUATCHES – 107
When you are forced to start Tanner McKee (7) and Jacoby Brissett (3), it won’t be a good week. I have a feeling this team will roll out CJ Stroud and JJ McCarthy the rest of the season regardless of matchups. Oh by the way, RJ Harvey went on IR and guess who else is a candidate for IR? Kicker Tyler Loop! You can’t make this stuff up!
HSG – 107
Want to know who else was running wind sprints? Zay Flowers (0). Paired with a Lamar Jackson injury on the first play of the game, the matchup was over for HSG before it even started. Want to know who the backup is to replace Lamar? It’s Daniel Jones. The rest of season outlook does not look positive for this team.
