“Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion but I feel like a 6 win threshold is a perfectly reasonable bar.”
You’re not wrong Jordan, but others may not see it that way. It’s always going to be challenging when you have the third most points but miss the playoffs. Take your committees elsewhere!
With no shortage of drama, the time has arrived, it is officially the playoffs! The final week of the regular season gave us some clarity on the playoff picture, including a historic comeback from the office of Andrew Erk and an equally as historic collapse from Tim.
On to the brief recaps!
Avalanche earn final spot in playoffs, beat Misfits 149-130
HISTORY IS MADE! Scoring 149 points and earning a win over the Misfits, the Avalanche clinched the final spot in the postseason picture. After starting 0-6, the Avalanche got hot at the right time, winning six of their last eight, sneaking into the postseason. They will look to carry that momentum into the first round.
It was a solid week for the Misfits who put up 130. They have the bye week in week 15 before the consolation bracket starts in week 16.
Piranhas throttle HSG, ending playoff hopes 146-65
The Piranhas are peaking at the right time, just in time for the postseason. Turning into one of the scarier teams to face in the first round, is this the year the Piranhas can finally win it all?
Just embarrassing. You’re telling me, that on a MUST WIN week, you score the lowest output in the league on the season? 65 points?? It was not meant to be for this squad. On the wrong side of history, after starting the season 5-0, HSG finished the year losing eight of the last nine games. The historic collapse resulted in a missed playoff berth and will now play in the consolation bracket starting in week 16. This year will be remembered for the wrong reasons.
Squatches make another statement, take down playoff bound Sandstorms 167-141
Should this team be in the playoffs? Probably, especially when you score the third most points in the league, but the reality is they found their stride a little too late. I would recommend muting the chat this week because there may or not be a rant.. or maybe there already has been. Consolation bracket starts in week 16.
The 141 points was a great output from the Sandstorms and should provide good momentum heading into the postseason. At this point, the fantasy guru will take any moral victories he can get after dropping five straight matchups to end the regular season. Maybe next week will be a win.
Thunder shock Icecaps in low scoring, rather surprising affair, 100-95
In the least entertaining matchup of the week, it came down to the wire on Monday night. Despite only scoring 100 points, the Thunder held off a late Icecaps comeback bid on Monday night. It is not an encouraging output for a team headed for the #3 seed in the playoff bracket.
Even with the terrible week, the Icecaps were able to clinch the overall #1 seed and most points for the regular season. The matchup could have easily been a win if they had started Mixon or Williams who were left on the bench. Let’s hope they got those bad start decisions out of the way now rather than later. With a bye, the Icecaps will be back on playing field in week 16.
HCTM destroys GWW, 148-103
Along with the Squatches, should this team be in the playoffs? Maybe, but similar to the Squatches they got hot at the wrong time. The win against Galen will help the overall record but won’t help the playoff dreams. They get the week off as the consolation bracket begins in week 16.
Having a shot at the overall #1 seed, GWW barely scored over 100. That’s okay because this team has earned their first-round bye. They will resume in week 16.

PLAYOFF MATCHUPS
THUNDER vs. AVALANCHE
In their only matchup in week 9, the Avalanche got the better of the Thunder, winning 136-121. The Avalanche have to have the advantage right now after just scoring 149 points last week. The Thunder are going to need to nail some of their start/sit decisions if they want to advance.
Earning a spot in the postseason for only the second time in franchise history, the Avalanche are looking to earn their first playoff win after going 0-2 back in 2020. One of those postseason losses? This Thunder franchise. The Avalanche highest finish in the league is sixth, so they will look to improve upon that.
The Thunder earned a spot in the playoff for the first time since 2020 after two years of missing the postseason. They will look to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2019, which was also the last time they raised a banner. A three time BBL champion, the Thunder have their eyes set on another.
PIRANHAS vs. SANDSTORMS
In their only matchup in week 6, The Sandstorms won 128-98. However, I am not feeling good if I am the fantasy guru having not won a matchup since Nov. 5. The Piranhas are one of those teams that no one wants to face right now, which makes for an exciting opening round!
The Piranhas are no stranger to the postseason, making appearances in all but two seasons in the league. With two second place and two third place finishes, the only thing missing from this franchise is a championship. Is 2023 the year?
Making their third playoff appearance in the franchise history, the Sandstorms are looking to advance to their second semifinal and first since 2019 when they finished third overall. That third place finish is also the highest the Sandstorms have finished in their eight year history.
CLOSING
Good luck to all in the playoffs!
Cheers!
