Cellar Dwellers at it Again, Thankful for Byes, and Look at the Pretty Christmas Lights!

Then there were four!

What a high scoring weekend! The Squatches and GWW earned upset wins to put them into the semifinals of the Books Boss League Fantasy Football Championship. Teams needed their best this weekend, and for the most part they brought it!

On to the recaps!

GWW Wins Shootout Against Icecaps, 185-170

Talk about saving their best for the playoffs! GWW scored a season-high 185 points to knock off the Icecaps in this high scoring thriller! If anyone should be personally thanked, it’s Trevor Lawrence who exploded for 55 points! Needing all 55, Galen also got help from Jacobs (22), CMC (15), Swift (23), Myers (26), and Chicago (22). Galen even started Likely (0) and McConkey (2), but with his team accounting for 12 touchdowns, GWW is into the semifinals for the first time since 2023, where he finished fourth.

It’s hard to imagine scoring 170 points in the playoffs and losing, but that is what this team has to come to reality with. Also scoring a season high 170, Jack is probably even more upset at Jalen Hurts from a couple weeks ago. His squad’s ten-touchdown performance was highlighted by Jackson (19), Stafford (24), Collins (21), Cook (30), Dowdle (11), Kittle (16), and special teams combining for 31. Arguably, it was one of the most balanced rosters throughout the year, but it didn’t account for Lawrence scoring over 50 points. If they had started Purdy (34) over Jackson and a combination of either Montgomery or McLaurin, the Icecaps would be advancing. It’s tough being the Icecaps.

Squatches Do it Again, Advance Over Piranhas, 154-145

Look at the pretty Christmas Lights! This win can be attributed to one person and one person only. Fellow league manager Tim. With Tim outbidding Ezra for Sanders last week, the Squatches were forced to start Kirk Cousins, who ended up scoring 32 points! Paired with Hurts (30), Jennings (16), Pollard (19), and Aubrey (17), it was a solid postseason lineup. Without Cousins in the lineup, the Piranhas would have advanced. Perhaps another visit to Refreshing Mountain is in store.

Despite exceeding league average (132) this week in scoring, the 145 was the lowest score among the playoff teams, which tells you what the Piranhas were up against. Nix (38), Chase (15), Henderson (29), Achane (15), and Jacksonville (14) were the highlights, but it was the lowlights who will steal the spotlight. Prescott (11), Judkins (1), and McPherson (0) did no favors as this team plays for fifth place. If Jordan had moved some starts around, for example benching Judkins and moving Achane to RB 2, and then starting Mike Evans (16) in the flex, Jordan would be a winner. But it was not to be.

WAIVER WIRE UPDATE

The cellar dwellers are at it again! This time it was Nick who out-bid Ezra for the Bills defense. Nick’s bid of $16 was just enough over Ezra’s $15 bid. What does Ezra have to do to win a bid around here?

Nick also put in a $16 unopposed bid for Jordan Mason. “Spend it or lose it” has to be the motto Nick has taken going into this week.

Also notable, Book put in a $13 bid for Michael Carter, as the Cardinals are down to their fourth running back this season. The only other bid was $0 from Ben.

LOOK AT THE PRETTY CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

As alluded to earlier, Ezra met with fellow manager Tim at Refreshing Mountain late last week! Perhaps thanking him for winning the Shedeur Sanders bid? Who’s to say? It’s always great to see the league outside of football!

ON TO THE SEMIFINALS, WEEK 16

There’s a reason why the byes are coveted spots in the league. For one, if Jalen Hurts had scored enough to beat the Thunder in week 14, it would have been the Thunder losing to GWW this week instead of the Icecaps. I have a feeling Hurts will be on Jack’s Do Not Draft list next season.

The Misfits, the other bye recipient, also would have been easily knocked out this past week, as they would have only scored a meager total of 97 points. Both Ben and I are thankful for the bye!

Other Updates

Not the greatest of news entering a semifinal, as GWW now has a quarterback shortage. Not only did they lose Mahomes to injury, but Tua was just benched for the foreseeable future. Is GWW really about to roll out Quinn Ewers in a semifinal matchup with a Championship appearance on the line?

Good luck to all!

Cheers!
