What a wild week the Books Boss League had! Not only did the Misfits drop their first contest of the year, but the Sandstorms secured their first win on one of the final plays of the Monday night game! The storylines do not end there.
On to the recaps!
Sandstorms Earn Incredible Last Second Win against GWW, 115-114
Thank you Chiefs defense! What a way to earn the first win of the season! Holding the lead for most of Monday night, a late pass from Mahomes to Worthy gave Galen a one-point lead with less than three minutes to go in the game. As the Commanders ran a couple plays, it looked like the Sandstorms were headed for their eighth straight loss… UNTIL THEY WEREN’T. The Chiefs defense picked off Mariota and gave Logan two points to steal their first win of the year. It doesn’t take away the fact that this team still struggled outside of Chase Brown (24) and Travis Kelce (17) but we’re going to end this one on a high note!
Fantasy gives… and also takes away. On the end of yet another last second play, it’s a brutal loss for Galen, who is no stranger to these finishes. Mahomes (29), Gadsden and Swift (both 14) had nice outings. Opting to pick up and start Kirk Cousins (7) over their other options Tua (32) and Gabriel (16), proved to be the difference in winning and losing. Also of note, Galen removed his bid on Andy Dalton as a courtesy to Logan who didn’t have a QB for week 8. Dalton’s 1.10 points, while sad, was just enough to give Logan the win. But here we are.
Icecaps Survive Piranhas, 149-131
Let James cook! After the first half on Monday night, Jordan still had the lead. Rashee Rice (18) and the Chiefs woke up in the second half and secured the win for the Icecaps. Scrambling after Lamar Jackson was inactive, Tyler Huntley (20) proved to be a critical pickup. Pair that with 37 from James Cook and the Icecaps earned their fifth win.
It was a valiant effort from the Piranhas. Nix (31), McLaughlin (18) and the Tampa Bay defense (28) had incredible performances but wasn’t enough to take them across the finish line. This was mostly due to the questionable start of Darnell Mooney (1). Sure, the thought process was there since he was supposedly the top option after London was declared out. But then again Kirk Cousins was throwing him the ball. Tough week.
Thunder Hand Misfits First Loss, 133-108
Led by Drake Maye (33), Josh Allen (25) and the Buffalo defense (18), the Thunder earned a big win over the Misfits. Even though five starters scored single digits, including two starters scoring less than a point (Mason and Ferguson), the Thunder can thank Ben for having his worst output of the season.
There goes the undefeated season. Jonathan Taylor (37), Joe Flacco (28) and Javonte Williams (17) lived up to the hype while basically everyone else flopped. Even a surprising outing from Bijan Robinson (3) could not have been predicted by anyone. All seven other starters scored less than six points. Yikes! Shouldn’t be too much concern though considering the first seven weeks.
Squatches Destroy Avalanche, 170-116
The Squatches are here to make a statement! Hurts (34), Jones (29), Kraft (27) and Henry (21) all came together to remind the league that this team has championship aspirations too. The past three weeks the Squatches are on fire, averaging 160 points per week. We’re starting to find that consistency that this team needed. It’s tough to see the heartbeat of this team Cam Skateboo leave with a season ending injury, but he didn’t need Tyrone Tracy THAT badly.
It’s challenging when your opponent puts up 170. It’s also challenging when you don’t score over 117. A week after writing about how disappointing Saquon Barkley has been, Barkley rattled off 31 points. The problem is that Erk gave him no help. Six starters scored in single digits, all scoring less than eight. A critical matchup awaits against the Dawgs next week that could determine the direction of both teams.
HSG Rolls Dawgs, 169-119
Jordan Love (34), CJ Stroud (27) and Breece Hall (35) helped HSG get their second win of the season. The 169 score was the highest value HSG has scored this season and all without AJ Brown. Maybe HSG and the Eagles are better without AJ Brown in the lineup?
It’s tough. After Herbert (33), Dart (21), Pittman (17) and Boswell (22), it wasn’t pretty at all. The other six starters were in single digits, including -7.25 from the Steelers defense. That may have just overtaken the ‘Worst Start of the Year’ surpassing the Thunder’s -6.75 from Green Bay earlier this year. An important matchup is ahead next week against the Avalanche that again, has huge ramifications as each team sits at 3-5. Is it a must win?
Waiver Wire Update
Wow. Move over $44 Woody Marks, we have yet another massive bid that was put in this week. Fresh after their first win of the year, Logan is putting all, and I mean ALL of his chips in the basket of Tyrone Tracy. Logan’s final offer for Tracy? $94. $94!!!
When you are 1-7, something has to change and maybe this is the spark to send this team on a winning streak. Time will tell.
Other Notable Bids
Tyler Shough – $12 (Tim)
Kareem Hunt – $7 (Jordan)
$33 – Failed bid for Tyrone Tracy, (Jack)
On to Week 9
Cheers!
