Tired of the Slander, So Nice We Said it Twice, and I’m on a Bye This Week

“Misfits are tired of the slander. We came to play this year.”

He’s not wrong. At 6-0 and clearly the strongest team in the league, Ben is making a case that we can forget about all of the other years of Misfit football. How strong is that case?

Well, we have five seasons of Misfit football to look back on. Outside of a runner-up finish in 2022, the other four seasons have seen Ben finish 8th or 9th place. Not so great.

However, this season is quite encouraging and if the Misfits continue on this incredible tear, we could be looking at the leagues first undefeated champion.

On to the recaps!

Misfits Complete Comeback against Piranhas, 147-130

Needing about 40 points on Monday night, they got it with another dominant performance from Bijan (32), and then a 22-point performance from Caleb Williams. 23 points from Jonathan Taylor also helped fuel the sixth straight win for the Misfits. At 6-0, Ben is not messing around this season and is tired of all the smack talk on his previous teams. Do they have a bye this week?

The Piranhas played a nice game, however the 130 was the fourth lowest score this week. Not even Achane (29) or Prescott (28) was enough to overcome five starters with seven or less points. The yahoo matchup of the week got it right again, but the Piranhas have to be disappointed with the outcome.

Avalanche Pile on Sandstorms Misery, 149-125

Darnold (24) and JSN (24) were the highlights for this squad. Paired with Metcalf (17) and the Denver defense (17), the Avalanche earned a nice win to get back to .500. Wait what’s that over there!? It’s a Brian Thomas sighting!!

The good news. The 125 points is the highest point total for the Sandstorms this season. The bad news. It was the third lowest score this week. Credit where credit is due, picking up the Las Vegas defense (17) was a great call. Perhaps they can earn their first win next week…. Maybe. The last thing they want to do is become a bye.

Squatches Take out Icecaps, 155-117

Hurts (23), Jones (27), Pickens (25) and Skattebo (32) combined for 107 in a huge win. For those that are good at math, that leaves the other six players combining for less than 50 points. League winner Kimani Vidal was left on the bench with 22 points. (He cost zero FAB yanno). Outside of -2 from the Eagles defense, it was a solid showing to get back on track. Is a bye on tap for this upcoming week as well?

Surprisingly not the worst outing on the year, as the Icecaps scored 113 in a week two win. Once again, it was Rico Dowdle (35) leading the way. This time, his only help was Eddy Pineiro (18). The other eight players didn’t surpass 13 points each. It was a down week for (as of week 5) the second highest scoring team in the league.

Thunder Survive Late Push from Dawgs, 153-131

Drake Maye (34) and Sunday morning waiver wire pickup Los Angeles Rams defense (23) were key in picking up their fifth win on the year. Dicker the Kicker (18) added on the overall solid week. The only bad news is their receivers combined for six points and Puka Nacua may be out.

Drake London (24) brought the Dawgs to within five at halftime on Monday night. That would be the closest margin the score would be. After trading for Jaxson Dart (27) on Thursday, Boswell (16) and the Pittsburgh defense (14) rounded out some great starts. The problem was that four players scored eight or less, including last minute scratch Dalton Kincaid (0). Ravaged by injuries and byes, nobody on the bench would have made a difference.

GWW Overpowers HSG, 166-109

The Winning Winners were too much to handle as they cruised to their third win. Mahomes (38), Jacobs (30), Swift (27), and CMC (19) were the major factors in the dominant showing. (Those four outscored HSG alone). Even with five players in singles digits, GWW still earned the highest score on the week. They were just too much to handle this week. So nice, that we said it twice!

Tough week for Tim. Seven starters scored less than 13 points. There is nothing that Tim could have done that would have changed the outcome of this matchup. Sometimes there is relief in knowing that you made the right start/sit decisions and can live with the result. But the question is, does Tim feel that way at 1-5? Tim will try to avoid being a bye this week.

Waiver Wire Update

Nothing crazy this week!

On to Week 7

We are approaching the halfway point of the regular season! Time flies!

Cheers!
