Welcome back NFL Football! Week 1 did not disappoint, giving us perhaps the game of the year (Ravens, Bills). Although not everyone was as excited about that game as others, just ask Jack and Logan to name a few.
On to the recaps!
Thunder bests Icecaps in Yahoo Matchup of the Week, 145-131
Josh Allen is my hero! A rematch of last year’s championship, the Thunder once again got the better of the Icecaps. While the entire starting roster was kind of average, Josh Allen’s (43), late game heroics helped seal the victory for the Thunder against an Icecap team that just kept hanging around. The final four minutes of that game was some of the most exciting football I’ve watched… at least for me. If Allen performs like this, this team will always be in the mix.
The Icecaps had a shot, and I mean a real shot on Sunday night. Lamar Jackson (35) and James Cook (17) pulled the Icecaps to within striking distance with Aaron Jones set to play Monday night. All the Ravens had to do was stop the Bills on 4th and 2 and basically run out the clock in the final four minutes. Enter Josh Allen… and you know the rest. The additional points from Allen sunk any chances the Icecaps had to win. I wouldn’t be too concerned going forward.
Misfits earn win over Hurts so Good, 135-123
This is a solid opening win for Ben. Mayfield (30), Williams (27), Bijan (19) and Wilson (17) led the way with strong performances. Four starters scored less than seven, but it’s okay. The only blemish? Benching rising star Emeka Egbuka (19). We will see if lessons are learned in week 2.
AJ Brown (0) set the tone on Thursday and Tim never recovered. Six starters scored less than 13, not even Zay Flowers (23) and Breece Hall (18) could save Tim. If he switched some things around with the roster and started Etienne (17), Tim could have won. “Could” does not win championships. On to week 2.
GWW overcomes tough start to win against Prairie Dawgs, 136-105
I had written a post draft article (check it out here if you haven’t) and mentioned how it wasn’t an ideal start for Galen. The good news is that his team rebounded in a major way. Scoring the second highest point total on the week, Mahomes (30), Daniels (23), CMC (18), and the Denver defense (18) all helped to kick the season off 1-0. Certainly encouraging, but as with any team, a couple injuries could put this team in a pickle quickly.
After Justin Herbert’s 34 on Friday, all was good. Then it wasn’t. Six starters scored less than eight points, which is not a recipe for success. Also, when Chris Boswell (15) is your third highest scorer, just start preparing for next week. There should be brighter days ahead… maybe.
Squatches ground Sandstorms, 133-105
“Take Derrick Henry until he proves you wrong”. Not bad advice. This one is interesting, because seven starters scored less than 13 for the Squatches. The story is those other three starters. Hurts (26), Penix (27) and the aforementioned Henry (30) carried this team to a win on an otherwise unimpressive roster. If Henry keeps scoring 30 per week, it’s concerning for the rest of the league.
Not a great week from the Sandstorms. Six starters scored less than 12, including four that scored less than eight points. Remember when I said it was bad when Chris Boswell was the third highest scorer? Well Ka’imi Fairbairn was the second highest scorer on this team with 14. That tells you all you need to know here.
Avalanche glide past Piranhas, 114-76
While not the most exciting matchup, a win is a win for the Avalanche. Barkley (16) and Cam Little (16) were great starts, and that was about it. Six starters scored less than 13. Erk also opted to bench Aaron Rodgers (33) which was more than both of his starting QB combined, Goff (12) and Darnold (5). Look for more efficiency ahead.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t get more exciting here with the Piranhas. The lowest score of the week, the Piranhas didn’t crack 80 points. After Friday, Kelce (11) gave them a positive outlook into the weekend. It would be positive no more. Eight starters scored less than ten and the highlight of this team was Achane (14). If anybody watched the Dolphins attempt to play football Sunday, I’m sorry for your eyes. Maybe Jordan should worry less about who he’s stashing on IR, and more about the players he is actually starting. It can only get better from here right?

It’s hard to believe that FAB was not the waiver wire system in the BBL until the 2022 season. What were we doing for the first eight seasons?

Conclusion
Yahoo has decided to roll out an AI generated weekly recap for our league. That article will NOT be promoted here! No one is taking my job.
Cheers!
