Broken dreams, random number generators and the final four

Then there were four.

With only two matchups this past weekend, the Sandstorms and Hurts so Good advanced to the next round to keep their playoff hopes alive.

For GalensWinningWinners and the Squatches, the dream is over.

But what I want to know is, it’s 2024, how are we still dropping the ball before getting to the end zone?? You know who you are!! It’s baffling.

On to the recaps!

HSG takes down Squatches 155-123

Things looked bad after Cooper Kupp scored zero on Thursday night, but the rest of the team responded well on Sunday. Hurts (34), St. Brown (26), Chase Brown (27) and the Bengals defense (20) helped this team to the semifinals. This is the team that we thought they could be a couple months ago, and they picked the right time to put it back together. The No. 1 seed Icecaps are on deck.

The fighting Lamar Jackson’s just couldn’t do it. Outside of Jackson (48) and the Chiefs defense (26), it was a terrible week. 60% of the roster scored 10 or less points including zero points from Amari Cooper, and -0.36 from Jameis Winston. Even if they had started Stafford (9) and Allen (15) who were both benched, the Squatches still would have lost. The fifth place matchup is ahead for this team.

Sandstorms Two-Peat still alive, beat GWW 152-131

Could we have our first back-to-back champion? Sporting a relatively balanced lineup with seven starters scoring in the 8-13 points range, they can thank DaVante Adams for turning in a vintage performance (35). Over 150-points later, this team is in the semi finals. They will battle the Thunder this weekend.

As anyone could have guessed, it was the start sits that did this team in. Cook (26) and Aaron Jones (19) were the good starts on the way to 131 points, but it could have been more. First, there’s Jonathan Taylor dropping the ball right before the end zone, resulting in an eight point swing. Then, there’s the tough start/sit decisions. Nabers (15) was benched for Metcalf (3) and the Falcons defense (24) was benched for the Commanders (9). If those two swaps are made, Galen would be playing this weekend in the semifinals. Another “what if” season can go on the record for this franchise. They will play in the fifth place matchup against the Squatches. Perhaps this week we might see a random number generator for their starts.
