“Man GalensLosingLosers are down bad tonight…losing to the worst team in the league?? Couldn’t be me.”
Good one Ben! No one saw this coming, especially Galen after seemingly taking control of the top of the standings after last week’s win against the Icecaps. Life comes at you fast after losing to the Misfits. But hey, it’s why we play the game.
But first… let’s consult the flowchart. Did a defense do well? No harm, no foul. Did a defense do poorly? Outrage from Ezra. The inverse can be said if the defense was being started by Ezra’s opponent. Good stuff Jordan!
Thursday night provided lots of banter about league scoring, once again isolating the defensive scoring metrics. Who knew that you could get credited with a TFL on a sack!? I certainly didn’t, thought they were different stats but APPARENTLY NOT. Look for this to be revamped in the offseason. Until then, enjoy your inflated defensive scoring.
As we enter week 10, only three games separate first place from last place, which is a win for league parity! With five weeks to go, the time is now to claim a playoff position.
On to the recaps!
Misfits upset GWW in shocker of the week, 126-88
No one had this on their 2024 bingo card, as the Misfits pulled off the upset of the previously No. 1 ranked GalensWinningWinners. Ben can thank Saquan Barkley (32) and the combined efforts of Mayfield (22) and Stafford (21). Otherwise, half the starters scored single digits, and seven other teams would have taken the Misfits down. At 3-6, the Misfits are only three games out of first place, and one game out of the playoffs. So, you’re saying there’s a chance?
Just horrible. Six starters scored single digits including Murray (5) and Love (6). When the quarterbacks combine for 11, you won’t win very often. The 4pm slate of games went about as bad as it could with Murray, Love and Doubs scoring under 15 points combined. Maybe we gave this team too much credit in previous articles because this certainly does not look like a playoff team, let alone the overall No. 1 seed coming into the weekend. A big matchup against a surging HSG team awaits.
Icecaps remind everyone who they are, take down Sandstorms 175-146
After last week, the Icecaps did the right thing by not blowing the team up but standing firm and was rewarded with another huge showing. Burrow (36), Darnold (26), Hopkins (22), Henry (27) and the Bengals defense (16) showed up in a big way. Despite last week, I think we can confidently say once again that this team is the favorite. Joe Burrow, Derrick Henry, we didn’t even mention Ja’Marr Chase this week. It’s going to take a lot, and I mean A LOT for this team not to make a championship appearance. The roster is stacked from top to bottom. Watch out for the Icecaps in November and December.
It was a solid showing from the reigning champs, but it wasn’t good enough. Mahomes finally showed up (31), DaVante Adams returned from injury for a late touchdown (not sleeping, Jack) and Achane is heating up with a 27-point performance. Overall, it was a positive week despite the loss. A big matchup awaits with the Squatches in week 10.
HSG puts on clinic, destroys Prairie Dawgs 161-88
You want to talk about a team that’s surging, look no further. HSG put up over 160 points thanks to Hurts (35), Mixon (19), Chase Brown (24) and the Chargers defense (24). Who knew that trading Saquon Barkley would be an elite move for this team? Even Tim, an Eagles fan trading away Barkley, it’s incredible. Tim had depth on the bench with Devonta Smith (16) and Tank Dell (14) as well. This team could also be quite dangerous come November and December.
These corporate commissioners don’t want us little guys to succeed! This is what happens when it’s not National Tight Ends Day, Kyle Pitts has one catch for 11 yards. The rest of the roster was bad too, but what do you expect from a team that has sustained plenty of injuries. Of the six starters in single digits, the quarterbacks Williams (9) and Minshew (2) combined for 11. Like Galen, you will not win a ton of matchups with that type of QB play. It would have been hilarious if Nick had played Galen this week, as Nick scored eight hundredths of a point more, which would have been an incredible ending. This is what the yahoo schedulers took away from us! Maybe getting Christian McCaffrey back this week will be the turning point in the season.
Avalanche earn must win over Piranhas, 144-131
It’s Cooper Rush time! The good news? The Avalanche won. The bad news? They need a QB in the worst way. With Dak Prescott out for a while, Erk only has one other starting QB on the roster (Justin Herbert). They will need the position players to step up like they did this weekend with Jefferson (17) and Garrett Wilson (22). To add insult to injury, Drake London also left with a hip injury. While the win was critical, it came with a cost. We will see if the Avalanche can survive no Prescott for the immediate future. Look for this team to make a trade soon.
Well, the 131 points was an average day, thanks to Josh Allen (28) and JK Dobbins (23) but otherwise the rest of the starters were… well average. Jordan got the full Jameis Winston experience watching him throw three interceptions and converting his only touchdown in the final minutes. Kyren Williams scored his lowest output of the season with 12, which is still pretty impressive. While not out of the playoff race, this weekend should provide a lot of clarity on the direction of the team after they face the reeling Thunder.
Squatches make a case for league’s best, beat Thunder 151-129
After losing to the Misfits, the Squatches have rattled off three straight wins to move to 6-3 on the season. Starting with 18 points from the Jets defense, Lamar Jackson (30), Bijan Robinson (18) and Zay Flowers deciding to have his best game of the year (25) propelled the Squatches to a win. Is it time to give Ezra some credit? This team keeps finding ways to win. I mean, when you have Lamar Jackson, it can cover up a lot of issues within the roster, which if I had to guess, is happening right now. Definitely a contender, look for this team to make a trade to bolster the roster.
This team is reeling at the wrong time. Riding a three-game losing streak, this team is just… not very good. Half the roster scored single digits, but the other starters are trying to will this team to victory. When I say other starters, I mean one single person – Alvin Kamara (26), who has been a bright spot in an otherwise unimpressive team. Considering that their third-round pick was just benched (Richardson), the Thunder should probably make a trade in the coming weeks. I would expect Alvin Kamara to be on the table for future offers.
