“If it makes you feel any better, Drake Maye is +185 to throw 2 TDs.”
It did not make Ben feel better after benching Matthew Stafford on Thursday night after throwing for more touchdowns (4) than he had all season (3). Surely, this is the week that Ben will get it right, right?
In what was the most anticipated matchup between the top two teams in the standings, it did not live up to expectations as GWW breezed through the Icecaps. Is it time to call the Icecaps a fraud? Or was it just a flop?
On to the recaps!
HSG wins again, this time against Piranhas 160-150
Shoutout Chris Boswell (13) and the Steelers defense (18) for completing the comeback on Monday night. Once again proving that Jalen Hurts (39) and Joe Mixon (21) were excellent trade acquisitions, Tim was able to score over 160 to even out his record to 4-4. Tim has appeared to have fixed his team from late in September and looks primed to make a postseason run.
After spending $21 for Jameis Winston (I’m still mad about it) Jordan opted to bench his new investment. If he had started Winston over Tua, Jordan would have won this week. Otherwise, the 150 points was a welcomed outburst of scoring from touchdown machine Kyren Williams (20), JK Dobbins (15) and the Denver defense (17). Now at 3-5, consider this week a must win against another 3-5 team in the Avalanche.
Prairie Dawgs win another close one, beat Misfits 138-130
Happy National Tight Ends Day to Kyle Pitts! His 21 points helped push the Dawgs to an even 4-4 record. Purdy (30) and receivers Mooney (16) and Harrison (19) also led the charge. Harrison must have taken what I said last week personally, as he went on to score his second highest total of the season. Through two months of the season, to be sitting at 4-4 despite all the injuries AND getting Christian McCaffrey back in two weeks, this team could make a postseason appearance.
Misfits gonna Misfit. The weekend was destined for failure after benching Stafford (32) on Thursday night. After trading for Drake Maye earlier in the week, Ben went on to swap out Stafford for Maye on Thursday. Big mistake. (Maye did not throw for two touchdowns by the way). He wasn’t done, benching Tracy Jr. (23) and starting DJ Moore (3) in the flex. If Ben makes either of those adjustments, I would be writing a different narrative. But here we are. At 2-6, it’s not over, but it’s certainly close to being over.
Squatches take down Avalanche 147-135 on the back of Jackson, Cousins and Robinson
Lamar Jackson (29), Kirk Cousins (37), Bijan Robinson (18), end of list. If the Squatches are going to win, it’s going to be through those three players. Sound familiar? They showed up this weekend and also got supporting help from Mostert (16), Flowers (14) and even Sam LaPorta (12). This score could have been bigger if George Pickens could get both feet down instead of one foot down twice. Ezra’s tab might get a little lighter after the Thunder this weekend.
Josh Jacobs exploded for 26 and Justin Herbert scored 28 points, but the Avalanche could not survive some tough start/sits. London (3) and the Ravens defense (2) could have been swapped with Shakir (11) and the Eagles defense (8). Even Najee Harris was on the bench (15). However, maybe we can give Erk a break because if you had told him the Falcons were going to score 31 points, Drake London should have been involved right? Not this weekend. As mentioned previously, they have a critical must win matchup this week against the 3-5 Piranhas.
Sandstorms put up league high 168 over Thunder (141)
Everything that needed to go right went right this week. Bo Nix (36), Achane (22), Swift (20), McBride (15) and the Lions defense (20) all dominated. Also taking the previous article personally, the reigning champs had something to say about repeating this season with an emphatic weekend scoring the highest point total in the league. Does it change my mind? No, it’s still a longshot for this team to repeat as champions. Do it again next week Logan.
Thursday started off bad with the Vikings defense (-1) and culminated with an injury to Jordan Mason on Sunday night (1). Sunday afternoon was relatively kind to the Thunder with Lawrence (27) and mainly James Cook (29). CeeDee Lamb even provided a late surge Sunday night (30), but they could not overcome the combined less than one point from two players. They benched Cade Otton, but it wouldn’t have made a difference. The Thunder has something to say about Ezra’s tab this weekend.
GWW have statement win over Icecaps 145-112
This is the team that Galen drafted (for the most part). Murray (26), Gibbs (20), Kittle (20) and Taylor (20) led the way in this “upset”. The win came with tears though, as Jordan Love left with an injury and Stefon Diggs tore his ACL and is out for the year. With Metcalf battling an injury, this team is already in the chat looking for a receiver. They should be able to find a trade partner soon. Sitting at the top of the league, they cannot get complacent.
Typical Jack. You hype up his team, call him a championship contender and then he flops for the lowest score of the week. There were no notable starts, but not really any notable bad starts other than Ferguson (2). This team was just below average, and the result was 112 points. Sitting in second place at 5-3, is it time to make any trades? Or will Jack believe in his team and ride it out?
Conclusion
On to week 9!
Cheers!
