It’s time to dust off the old resume, there is a head coaching job available in the NFL! The New York Jets were the first team to fire their head coach after the first five weeks of the season. It would great to see some representation of the BBL in the NFL. Just saying.
Elite Joe is BACK! Getting a start for the Colts (and the Misfits), his 33 points should have helped Ben win the week… It didn’t because of some poor start/sit decisions. Come on Ben!
Ben wasn’t done, opting to insult Daniel Jones saying,
“Watching Daniel Jones feels like watching a random fan win the opportunity to play QB for the game”
Well, let’s just say a little faith has been restored in the Giants after the weekend.
Not to mention that wasn’t even the main event this past week as one of our managers decided to “drop someone by accident”. The manager was Logan and he dropped Trey McBride. Which, I’m still not sure how that is possible because after you click the drop button, there is a prompt box from Yahoo that says, “Are you sure you want to drop [Trey McBride]” to which Logan clicked yes AGAIN to confirm he did.
With managers pacing around their own kitchens debating FAAB, the commissioner had to step in to put McBride back on the Sandstorms roster after a long day in Reading, PA., after a tennis match. Hopefully, all is alright with the league.
But we’re not done, as Jordan took to Snapchat AI for a haiku about the league clown show going on in the Sandstorms clubhouse.
Dropped McBride too soon,
Regret blooms like autumn leaves,
Points lost, hearts in gloom
Not bad for Snapchat AI am I right?
On to the recaps!
Sandstorms eke out a win against Misfits on Monday 137-133
While I’ve had a lot of bad things to say about the yahoo schedulers, they have certainly created some down to the wire matchups. This matchup could have gone either way until a rushing touchdown by Xavier Worthy late in the game pushed the Sandstorms to a win. Swift and Collins (both former Misfits) scored 20 and 14 points respectively, which happened to be the difference in this outcome. Surprisingly, Mahomes was not a factor in the matchup, only scoring 14. If you are the Sandstorms, you needed this one so they will take it and move on to next week.
Pain. This probably should have been a win for Ben, but some poor start/sit decisions were the difference. Mayfield (30), Moore (23) and waiver wire wonder Joe Flacco (33) were the good in the lineup, actually they were great. The bad in the lineup is the storyline. They did not have the same output from waiver wire pickup Wicks (2) which was costly. Another interesting start was backup Braelon Allen of the Jets (3). If Ben had started either Giants players he had, (Robinson or Tracy), Ben would have had a huge win. Maybe Ben will take back what he said about Daniel Jones.
Squatches rebound in big way, take down GWW 155-136
Kirk Cousins (42), Lamar Jackson (41), end of list. Ezra will in fact be sending Christmas cards the way of these two quarterbacks as they single handily won him the week. For those interested in math, this means the other eight starters combined for 72 points. Not great, but 83 points from quarterbacks will do the trick. Clearly motivated by the Sasquatch festival, this is certainly a step in the right direction.
How are you supposed to compete against 83 points from two players? Galen even got a combined 36 points from kicker and defense (very good). Kyler Murray (27) and “benched” in real life Rhamondre Stevenson (16) were solid starts. No lineup adjustments would have changed the outcome, so naturally the only blame this week can be cast to the yahoo schedulers. Just wait until this team gets their starting running backs back into the lineup, then could it be a different story?
Piranhas find the magic, spoil Prairie Dawgs return to United States 165-143
The model of consistency. All players scored in the 9-22 points range, creating one of the most well-balanced rosters of the season. Finally making the right call at tight end, Jordan called upon Tucker Kraft (21), and he didn’t disappoint. Brian Thomas (19), Kyren Williams (18) and the Denver defense (21) helped the Piranhas score over 160 for the first time all season. Can they get this consistency on a weekly basis?
The United States greeted Nick with a loss as he stepped back on American soil from his trip to Europe. Hope you had a great time! Fantasy wise, it was a great week scoring 143 but the schedulers had to redeem themselves after GIFTING Nick with two wins earlier in the season. Starting Caleb Williams (29), Higgins (22) and even picking the Rico Dowdle breakout game (20) wasn’t enough. Shoutout free agent pickup of the year Chuba Hubbard (14). Thanks Ben!
Thunder eases through HSG, 141-102
Kicking off the weekend right with a pick-six off Aaron Rodgers, the Vikings defense (21) set the tone over in London early Sunday. James Cook (18) and Brock Bowers (17) were great starts, but it wasn’t the greatest of weeks. Three starters combined for 14 points, (Lamb, Dionte Johnson, McPherson). Good thing the schedulers gave them a break this week.
Check your phone. There could be an amber alert about HSG. Not being seen since week 2, it’s time to panic. Half the starters scored single digits on their way to just north of 100 points. Tim isn’t asking anymore; he’s trying to trade! Perhaps this is the week where something actually gets done because this roster needs a shakeup outside of Barkley. Then again, Barkley is a great foundational piece for this team and can fill some glaring holes this roster has, but can it be sustained? Is it time to panic on first round pick Breece Hall? Combining for six points the last two weeks is exactly what you don’t want in your first-round pick. Watch out for trade offers to flood the chat.
Icecaps are officially back, slide past Avalanche 179-156
Being the highest scorer twice in a row is hard. The 179 was another impressive outing for the Icecaps on the back of Burrow (43), Chase (34), Derrick Henry (18) and Kareem Hunt (20). Those players alone would have beaten Tim’s entire team. The one week they decided to go with Sam Darnold he scored five points, but when the rest of the roster comes to play, it’s no big deal. Making a point to let the league know they are in fact relevant, the Icecaps are back.
The 156 points would have beat a lot of other teams, seven to be exact. Perhaps this is the season the league will start clamoring for a league median. Drake London (25) set this team up well on Thursday night and most of the other starters followed. Jacobs (18), Butker (14) and the New England defense (14) were solid starts. Unfortunately for Erk, the Icecaps had different plans. If they keep scoring over 150, generally good things should happen. The key word is generally.
Conclusion
On to week 6!
Cheers!
