Week 4 was yet another example of the yahoo schedulers trying to keep things as competitive as possible, with multiple matchups coming down to the wire. Just wait until we get to the thrilling snoozefest-part II!
There’s still lots of parity in the league with two 3-1 teams, six 2-2 teams and two 1-3 teams. As mentioned in a previous release, at this point last year four teams were 0-4. This has raised some questions though about making adjustments to the league settings. Unhappy managers are not keen on scoring and want to change some league settings (so it benefits them of course). I don’t think so Ben…. and Ezra.
On to the recaps!
Prairie Dawgs find another way, hold off Squatches in exciting snoozefest-part II, 93-88
Alright let me read off the weekly scores for the Prairie Dawgs through four weeks: 85, 126, 169, and 93. With that in mind, we could probably guess that this is one of the teams that is 1-3. We would all be incorrect because this team is 3-1, despite averaging less than 120 points a week. The only positive of this team? Chuba Hubbard (21), who carried this team to their third win. It only got worse from there, as three starters combined for -1.40 points. Yes, you read that correctly, THREE PLAYERS! Kyle Pitts (0), Rashee Rice (0), (which we hope Rice is okay after getting drilled by his own teammate Patrick Mahomes but it doesn’t look good) and Carson Steele (-1.40). September was not kind to this team, as they lost McCaffrey, Pacheco, Wilson and now Rice to injury. It didn’t have to look great, but at 3-1, Nick can continue sightseeing and relaxing in Europe. Plus, seeing Ezra lose is always a benefit.
“I think we should get rid of tight end, defense and kicker” which is exactly something you would say after you lost on Monday night getting a combined 18.5 points from those three positions. Ezra only needed 24 points on Monday night from LaPorta (6), Sanders (10) and Miami (2.5) but got 18 instead. 70% of the rosters scored single digits, which is terrible in itself but they had a chance to win. We’re still trying to figure out why Lamar Jackson is on Galen’s “Do not draft list” cause his 28 points gave the Squatches a fighting chance. However, they can only blame themselves because they benched Jordan Addison (20) which would have brought them a win. When is the sasquatch festival?
Thunder survives late surge from Misfits 156-152
There are no easy wins for the Trop. Easily getting teams’ best performances when facing off, the Thunder were under control after putting up 156 after Sunday. Daniels (27), Mason (24) and Kamara (21) paved the way in what turned out to be a close matchup. No decision was more critical than swapping out Richardson (6) for Lawrence (18) late on Sunday morning, which proved to be the difference in winning and losing. This is the same Trevor Lawrence that was on the Misfits team to start the season by the way. With scores of 153, 159, 126 and 156 over four weeks, this team is 2-2. Screw the yahoo schedulers.
Screw the yahoo schedulers is right! Rebounding in a HUGE way after the tire fire last week, the Misfits put up the third highest score of the league but faced the second highest scorer. Mayfield (33) and Aaron Jones (17) helped on Sunday, but it was Monday night when they almost got a miracle. Despite the game being wrapped up, the Titans clearly had the over on their own team, trying to punch it in with Pollard up 24-12. With 30 seconds left and fourth down inside the ten yard line, they handed if off to Pollard AGAIN for the fourth straight handoff and he scored to make it 31-12 (and hit the over). This gave Pollard 18 points on the night (fantasy wise). Now it was up to Amon Ra-St. Brown. Since they were playing the Thunder, of course St. Brown threw for a touchdown AND caught a touchdown on his way to 17 points midway through the fourth quarter. Needing only four more points to win the matchup, St. Brown did not find the ball again and the Misfits fell short. It was an incredible effort and certainly made the manager of Tropical Thunder sweat it out Monday night. At 1-3, this was certainly a positive sign. Oh and one more thing. Can we please MAKE TIGHT ENDS GREAT AGAIN?
Avalanche win in spite of bad starts over HSG, 130-92
Erk got back into the win column despite some real bad starts. Five starters were in single digits including tight end Mike Gesicki with a negative value (-0.9). On the flip side, Justin Fields (34), Justin Jefferson (16) and Brian Robinson (19) helped the Avalanche to 130 points. At 2-2, September was much kinder than it was last season (0-4).
It was a terrible showing from the number one team in the league (mathematically based on record). Six starters scored less than nine points, including four players with less than five. This included quarterback Derek Carr (4) and Breece Hall (2). The 92-point outing was the second worst in the league during week 4 only behind the Squatches. Don’t worry though, they are playing the Thunder next week so HSG will definitely score over 150.
Icecaps find stride, destroy reeling Piranhas 183-122
This matchup was really close before Sunday night. Cue Derrick Henry. Opening up the Ravens first drive with an 87-yard TD run, it was going to be a long night for the Piranhas. Are the Icecaps officially back? With Burrow (20), Chase (15), Henry (36) and late round draft steal Sam Darnold (27) all finding their form, the Icecaps have to be happy with the last two weeks. Not to mention it got better on Monday night with Montgomery (15) and Kenneth Walker (31). Welcome back into fantasy relevance Jack!
After setting the league on fire in week one with 159 points and starting out 1-0, the Piranhas dropped to 1-3. Losing Tua didn’t help, and we also highlighted last week’s debacle of a roster. Dalton (20), Evans (17), Williams (18) and Conner (20) were all solid starts. This week was tough going up against the fighting Derrick Henry’s and Kenneth Walker’s, and it didn’t help with Josh Allen (8) and another zero from Mark Andrews. The real question is, will he start Andrews after back-to-back zero-point weeks? At this point Jordan could also get on board with eliminating tight ends.
GWW wins again, this time over the reigning champs, 144-128
Keep sleeping on this team and see what happens. 144 points later and this team is 3-1. Welcome back to the lineup Jordan Love! Even throwing three picks, Love rallied for 36 points, better than Galen’s new selection for most exciting player Kyler Murray (11). Diggs (15), Taylor (18) and Gibbs (21) led the way. Quietly riding a three-game winning streak, this team looks solid.
The chat was quiet again, so we all know what that means. Logan had another tough week. Nico Collins (25) and the 49ers defense (28) did all the heavy lifting, but it wasn’t enough. They picked the wrong time to bench Swift (24) but with Odunze (1), Singletary (5), Meyers (6), Tucker (5) and Achane (3) in the starting lineup, it would have been hard to fix. Actually, I take that back, Jameson Williams (14) was also left on the bench Monday night. If he starts both of those players Logan would be 3-1. After a quick 2-0, this team sits at 2-2 after two straight losses.
Conclusion
On to week 5!
Cheers!
