The Panthers are SO back!
Well maybe not but at least they looked like a real NFL offense against the Raiders, which had to have shocked some people, including Ben. Ben opted to quickly pick up the Raiders defense Sunday afternoon and inserted them into the lineup. -4.5 points later and Ben was better off leaving that spot empty. This is the second week in a row that Ben has started a defense with negative points.
We love parity! There are no more undefeated or winless teams in the league! This is vastly different than last season which saw four teams start out at 0-4, and three teams start out at 3-0. Perhaps the talent is more spread out among the league this season, or maybe managers are just bad at making start/sit decisions.
On to the recaps!
Prairie Dawgs explode and destroy Sandstorms 169-104
Basking in Germany, Nick rebounded in a big way to knock off the Sandstorms. Four players scored over 20 including a Carolina Panthers running back! Chuba Hubbard (27) was a great free agent pickup (a Misfits drop I might add) and Nick had himself a stress-free afternoon of football. Have a great time overseas Nick!
Funny how when your team is bad the chat gets a lot quieter. The Sandstorms barely cracked 100, with six starters in single digits. It could have been a lot better as the bench alone scored 84 points including Singletary (16) and Odunze (19). His bench actually outscored an entire team (Misfits). The best start for them was Charbonnet with 24 points. Hopefully next week is better, but if the chat is quiet again, we know that his team must be bad.
Icecaps earn big win over HSG, 156-122
This is the team that the Icecaps thought they drafted. Burrow (31), Chase (24) and Henry (32) lived up to expectations and what do you know, the Icecaps won easily. Three players scored less than four points or otherwise it would have been a beatdown. Maybe this is a sneak peak of what’s ahead?
Seven starters scored less than 13 points, including a combined 20 from the quarterback position. Despite this, HSG sits at the top of the standings with a 2-1 record thanks to Barkley (32) who put up another monster performance. It’s Barkley and everyone else, so if Tim can get some outside help to pair with Barkley this team could be dangerous. Also, Tim is looking for a receiver again! There might be a trade in the future, time will tell!
GWW survives Monday night, beats Thunder 142-126
This score was a lot closer than the reality of this matchup. GWW had an 80-point advantage going into Monday night thanks to Jonathan Taylor (28) and the Seattle defense (21). With other solid performances from Metcalf, Gibbs and Diggs, it was a productive week to win back-to-back games for this squad. Does this team have what it takes to make it the distance though?
The score, while only a 16-point difference was not close at all. All day Sunday this team accounted for 66 points. The three players on Monday which were Daniels (34), Cook (16), and McPherson (8) accounted for 58 points. Half the team scored under ten and Anthony Richardson looks like a bust. Did you see his interception from the 1-yard line? *cringes* We’ll see what next week has in store.
Squatches also survive Monday night, take down Piranhas 130-115
Lamar Jackson (30), Amari Cooper (21) and the Green Bay defense (26) led the way for the Squatches in their win against the Piranhas. Only paying $7, SEVEN DOLLLARS for a wide receiver one in Quentin Johnson, he benched him. While the 10 points from Johnson was modest, it was better than two of the other starts in Pickens (7) and Flowers (2). Thank goodness the Jaguars stopped playing so Josh Allen stopped earning points.
Why couldn’t the Jags be more competitive?! Needing a miracle Monday night Jordan almost got one as Josh Allen scored 41 points and the Bills defense scored 22 as they rallied from a big deficit from Sunday. You know what? No, we’re not going to talk about that because there was a glaring, and I mean GLARING start/sit decision that was just baffling.
Let’s ignore the fact five starters scored less than five points. We are going to look at two start decisions and one sit decision which ultimately decided this matchup. First up, Rhamondre Stevenson on a terrible Patriots offense against the Jets on Thursday, knowing full well they would play from behind. 0.30 points later, instant regret. Maybe James Conner was the answer. I can’t fault him for that start because Conner was good the last two weeks, so we can look past the 2.5 points. But what I can’t look past is benching Kyren Williams (32). Kupp was out, Nacua was out, who else is going to get the ball? KYREN WILLIAMS. Clearly, that would have made the difference, but Jordan decided to get cute and bench his second-round pick. Start your studs man.
Avalanche get first win, beat the tire fire that is the Misfits, 132-69
Overall, it was a solid week from the Avalanche with Prescott leading the way with 33 and Justin Fields with 20. There weren’t any elite starts or terrible sits, just an all-around solid day. And that’s all you need against the Misfits.
What happened? I mean what really happened to this team? After the draft, there were certainly some questions, but it was a workable foundation for the team. What we are left with now are the remnants from a tire fire. 9/10 starters scored less than 12 points, including the aforementioned -4.5 from the Raiders defense. I’m just not sure what the identity of this team is and it shows on the field. The 69 was not the lowest weekly point total in league history and actually it didn’t even sneak into the top 3.
A Look into the History Books!
Lowest Weekly Score
- Nick, 2017- 27.88
- Erk, 2019 – 46.12
- Ezra, 2016 – 48.08
At least Ben didn’t make league history this weekend.
Conclusion
On to week 4!
