Brand new Nick, Misfits Celebrate with B Dubs and I am the Champion, you will treat me as such!

“2020 Nick wouldn’t have made the change.”

It’s a new era in the league! Nick Martin is active and making roster adjustments! After a late scratch from Chrisitan McCaffrey, Nick had to scan the waiver wire to find a replacement, finding Kyle Juszczyk. The crazy part is, if not for that roster adjustment of four points, Nick would have lost!

The Misfits celebrated a win over the Icecaps by going to their local Buffalo Wild Wings and leaving a nice tip, this time for excellent service. Or so we hope. Thank you Ben!

It was another eventful week 1, let’s get to the recaps!

Piranhas slip by Thunder 159-153 in high scoring affair

Easily the most entertaining matchup of the week, it featured the second and third highest scoring teams in the league. The Piranhas started off slow with Mark Andrews on Thursday night and appeared to be worried Sunday morning as well when Tyreek Hill was arrested but no worries, Hill suited up just in time for an 80 yard TD from Tua to open up the scoring. The touchdowns kept coming too, as the Piranhas starters accounted for ELEVEN touchdowns, and none were more important than the final touchdown courtesy of Kyren Williams. They will take the 1-0 start.

You can only do so much when you face the second highest scorer in the league. Anchored by strong QB play (surprise, surprise), the Thunder gave the Piranhas all they could handle. Despite the starters only scoring 6 touchdowns, the Thunder were right in the mix until the Kyren Williams TD put them over the edge. Puka Nacua getting placed on IR didn’t help as the receiving core takes a hit after week 1, but there is a lot of positivity around the building.

Sandstorms scrape by Squatches 135-128

Thankfully, we can trust Yahoo auto picks again as Logan’s auto picks – I mean the Sahara Sandstorms got the win week 1 over Ezra. Just as a reminder, this is the 2023 BBL Champion so we should treat him as such! Well… alright then. Logan can thank the Texans for giving Joe Mixon the rock 30 TIMES during the game to propel the Sandstorms to a 1-0 start on their quest for back-to-back Titles. With AJ Brown, De’Von Achane and the Saints defense, Logan will look to lean on this group again next week.

Keep talking, the Squatches time will come. Things were on schedule after 30 points from Lamar Jackson on Thursday, but they quickly went off the rails after that. Half the team scored in single digits including “watch me” Kirk Cousins with eight points. Not even Will Levis trying to give the Bears defense more points could push the Squatches into the win column. This team is still in good shape though.

HSG rallies for highest scorer of the week, takes out GWW 163-119.

JAKE MOODY. Already having cemented the win on Sunday, Tim wanted more, earning the highest score of the week with Jake Moody putting up 26 on Monday night to bring the total to 163. Saquon Barkley looks like one of the steals of the draft in the second round, Tim even told us to watch out for him last week. Even with Derek Carr on the bench this team looks deep after week 1. Is this the year Tim can win a championship?

Galen knew after Thursday and Friday how this weekend was going to go. Benching Xavier Worthy (19) and then Jayden Reed (30) AND Jordan Love getting injured was a bad omen for the weekend ahead. To make things worse, the player they were most excited about (Stefon Diggs) performed and scored 16 points! What made it bad is that Galen benched him too. Let’s just focus on week 2 with the start/sits.

Misfits knock off Icecaps 122-110

Who’s laughing now? It’s Ben who earned the week 1 win over the Icecaps scoring 122 points. Their first two picks (both QBs if you remember) both scored less than 22 points which wasn’t excellent by any stretch, but it beat out Jack’s QBs who each scored less than 14. The Dallas defense carried this week with 26 points, but half the roster scored in single digits. You won’t always win this way, but wins are wins.

Proving Yahoo right that this is a bad team, the Icecaps had a forgettable week 1 outing scoring south of 111 points. No starter scored more than 19 points and two starters scored less than 2, including -0.5 from the Eagles defense. The aforementioned poor QB play of Joe Burrow (8) and Jared Goff (13) did not set the tone for this team. But it could be worse.

Prairie Dawgs fight off Avalanche in return to BBL, 85-82 in exciting snoozefest

There really isn’t much to write about, both these teams should have lost this week, but Nick is walking away a winner. Six starters scored less than 10 points and his highest scorer was Brandon Aubrey with 22. With McCaffrey as a late scratch, 2024 Nick hopped on and made a roster adjustment, something 2020 Nick would never have done, signaling to the league that Nick has come to play. Those four points ended up being the difference between winning and losing. Despite only scoring 85 points, this matchup came down to the final possession of the game. Nick held on to improve to 1-0, but he’s going to need more points next week.

Somehow, the Avalanche were still in this and could have even won if that final Jets touchdown went to Garrett Wilson. It went to Allen Lazard instead and the Avalanche start at 0-1. No stranger to bad starts, six starters scored single digits and the highest scorer was Dak Prescott with 13. On to the next.

On to week 2!

Cheers!
