Pickup of the Week, an Original Poem, and Sorry Boss, this one’s in the Books

It was another fun weekend in the BBL as the Misfits earned their first win of the season! The same cannot be said for the other three teams who are still winless after this week. Ben even turned into a poet, crafting a Ben Hipple original poem after the victory.

Galen may have moved to 5-0, but that doesn’t mean we can’t question his decision an hour before kickoff to start the Washington Commanders defense who allowed 40 points to the Bears on their way to -4 points. It did not hold him back though, which is a positive for the franchise.

On to the recaps!

Misfits earn first win of year in shootout, 163-154

The Misfits used 84 points from DJ Moore and Ja’Marr Chase (42 each) on their way to their first win of the season. Ben turned into a poet after the victory, crafting an original poem.

I dreamt about this day for weeks

And finally it’s not so bleak

Moore and Chase have done their best

Yes, they’ve carried all the rest

Today the Misfits finally won

Could we say that Erk is done?

Happy Sunday to all

Because of our sport, football

Well done Ben. Well done.

On the flip side, the Avalanche had their best week of the season but fell ten points short as their record falls to 0-5. Breece Hall (28) and the Pittsburgh defense (24) contributed to an overall solid lineup, but it might be time to make a change.

Icecaps hand Thunder second straight loss, 154-117

The Icecaps used Hill (26), Montgomery (22), Achane (23) and the Saints defense (27) on their way to their fourth win of the season. Also, the best FAAB pickup of the year has to be De’von Achane who has seven touchdowns in four games. Jack will go as far as the Dolphins take him, as 30% of his roster plays for Miami. However, Achane looks to be out indefinitely with an injury, but the Icecaps are in a good spot. Sorry boss, this one’s in the books.

After a nice 3-0 start, the Thunder were handed their second straight loss and didn’t stand a chance Sunday afternoon. With injuries sustained to Richardson, Jefferson, and momentarily Kelce, the Thunder might need to take a look at the waivers. A season full of promise has been halted as reality has set in. This is a middling team that will hope to make the postseason as a six seed.

HSG moves to 5-0 after win over Piranhas, 141-95

Outside of 42 from Justin Fields, HSG had competent starters on their way to north of 140 points. Trading for Lawrence and Swift looks like it was the right long-term move. Is this the year Tim could win it all? He can only hope. HSG gets the struggling Thunder next.

The Piranhas moved to 3-2 after scoring under 100 points this week. Jalen Hurts (32) could not help the other seven starters in single digits. It was a bad week but the bottom half of the league had a bad week as well, so the Piranhas are still in a good spot. The Sandstorms are on tap for next week.

Sandstorms give Squatches fifth straight loss, 141-122

Speaking of the Sandstorms, they have jumped out to a 4-1 mark, quietly rattling off four straight wins. Newly acquired Etienne (36) and Diggs (18) were a staple as Logan put himself in a good position. I think the question everyone is asking though; can it be sustained? Because this franchise historically cannot.

Things could be worse; you could be the Squatches. At 0-5, this is the worst start from a defending champion in league history. The good news is that Sam Howell has been playing well, actually very well. But the problem is that he hasn’t been the answer for the Squatches. You need a full complement of players to win in this league. It doesn’t get easier next week when they challenge the undefeated GWW. 0-6 incoming here.

GWW moves to 5-0 after beating HCTM, 139-104

Josh Allen and Jared Goff combined for 65 for GWW and pushed them to yet another win. Getting a relatively balanced attacked from the rest of the squad, it was a solid week. But we can’t ignore the most baffling decision of the weekend. ‘Pickup of the week’ the Washington Commanders defense kicked off Thursday with -4 points. Luckily Galen was playing HCTM, so it didn’t matter.

HCTM will drop to 0-5 after falling to GWW. Joe Burrow returned to form with 29 but couldn’t help a giant zero put up by Hunter Henry. This team is in dire need of help. As the third 0-5 team in the league, it’s a race to see who can get their first win.

Survivor Pool

Blake was eliminated with 104.56 points leaving five teams remaining heading into week six.

Teams remaining: Jack, Galen, Tim, Ben, and Book all remain in the challenge. Ben has immunity as the highest scorer at 163.42.

Cheers!
