I was able to charge my phone just by touching it! It was an electric weekend outside of the BBL with some big milestones involving some league members, including the wedding of Nick and Ally Martin. Hoping for the best for the new couple! As for the other electric moments, if you know, you know.
For all the jokes I made last week about Sam Howell, he came to play and put up a solid 25 points for the Squatches while leading the Commanders to a win over the Broncos. I’m not going to let one week change my mind, prove it to me again this week Sam Howell.
“I’ll just slide my new RB 1 up”, Jack said with a smug look on his face after picking up Kyren Williams after Cam Akers was declared inactive. However, it was Galen with the smug look on his face after Jack benched Kyren Williams and was handed a loss by GWW. Williams put up 25 on the bench and could have made the matchup slightly more competitive. Do better Jack.
On to the recaps!
Thunder storms over HCTM, 149-109
For the second consecutive week, the Thunder scored more than 130 points and earned their second win of the season. Getting a strong output from Jefferson, Higgins, Mostert and Garrett Wilson, those four alone combined for 80 points. The Trop will be patiently waiting for the health status of Anthony Richardson this week, who will be looking to clear the concussion protocol. Otherwise, with two running backs on the bench scoring 28 and 30 points, this team would appear to have solved their woes from last season.
With half the roster in single digits, this team is going to need to make moves fast or they might just become the worst team in the league. They did score more than 100 points but lost name sake Nick Chubb on Monday night, furthering the misery for Blake. Send prayers to Nick Chubb, as the injury was awful to watch on Monday night. Hoping he gets better. The worst start of the week had to be the Denver defense, scoring -0.5 points. That’s not going to get it done Blake.
Sandstorms overtake Avalanche, 123-109
Lamar Jackson, Kenneth Walker and the Tampa Bay defense are helping Logan earn his first win of the season. Half the roster scored single digits but if you’re the Sandstorms winning ugly is good at this point in the year. As another week goes by though, I think 15 points is far too generous of a projection for Kenny Pickett.
The Avalanche are proving that if you can hit on late round quarterbacks, you can have a solid roster. For the second week in a row however, the quarterbacks have not been the issue. The issue once again was the position players, and it gave the Avalanche their second straight loss. Russell Wilson’s 34 and Baker Mayfield’s 20 was not enough to compensate for the combined 55 points from the other eight starters. This team needs help.
Piranhas make statement over Squatches, 173-140
Putting up a 173 will put the league on notice and that’s exactly what the Piranhas did. With four players scoring over 20, the Piranhas are going to move to 2-0 on the young season. Shoutout Jalen Hurts, Geno Smith, Bijan Robinson and Mike Evans on their solid games. After last week’s average performance, it has to feel good to get a convincing win this week.
Maybe Sam Howell IS the answer. Filling in for Aaron Rodgers, Howell responded positively to the adversity and put up 25 points for Ezra. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as the Piranhas just had more firepower in the lineup. Not to mention Josh Dobbs’s 28 on the bench, the quarterback room just might be ok for this squad. Perhaps it’s not time to panic yet, because 140 would have beaten a lot of other teams this week.
GalensWinningWinners defeats Icecaps 142-125
Also moving to 2-0, GWW led by Josh Allen, Christian McCaffrey and the Dallas defense is shaping up to be a formidable core for this team. But I think my favorite part was watching 35 percent of the free agent budget go to someone who went 13 carries for 39 yards. Looking at you Joshua Kelly. Can’t be too mad though, as GWW sits at the top of the standings with a 2-0 record.
Picking up Kyren Williams right before the 1PM slate of games was definitely the right move by the Icecaps, but the more puzzling move was to not start him. His 25 points were left on the bench and hurt the chances of the Icecaps pulling off a comeback. Starting Williams alone would not have won it, but it just looks bad for Jack’s “new RB 1”. The Jets defense scoring zero also hurt significantly but it’s back to work next week.
HSG scrapes past Misfits 131-116
A combined 11 players in this matchup scored single digits, but 36 from Captain Kirk led Tim to another win this week. Keenan Allen and his 24 points were also a welcome sign for HSG, but three players scored less than five points. HSG should be happy that they won.
The Misfits certainly embody the team’s name. Daniel Jones tried to single-handedly carry this team with 36 points but could not help the other nine players scoring less than 13 points. Look for this team to make a trade this week.
Closing
Good luck to all in week 3!
Cheers!
