Books Boss League released this statement yesterday in regard to the recent events surrounding the NFL,
We are saddened by the news of Damar Hamlin and what occurred last night in the Bills-Bengals game. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family and we are hoping for the best. The health of Damar Hamlin is of the first and foremost priority at this time.
Fantasy football has a unique ability to bring people together. Whether friends or strangers, we all tune in to watch the game of football, bringing us under one roof, uniting us all as fans of the game. A game we love to watch and scrutinize, through the highs and the lows with our make-believe set of players consisting of our ‘team(s)’.
I feel like sometimes we lose the fact that these players are people too and they play a violent game for our entertainment. We watch from afar, knowing that injuries are part of the game, yet we keep watching for our enjoyment. Last night was different. That violent game we all watch reared its head last night and reminded us all that this is more than football. It’s more than a game. This is about the health and wellness of people.
The office at Books Boss League continues to send our thoughts and prayers to Damar Hamlin and his family. We hope for nothing but the best for Damar Hamlin and his health going forward.
With prayers,
The League Office
Squatches Raise a Banner, Lights too Bright, Tim from the Top Rope and Common Sense Prevails!
On a day that was originally to be filled with excitement for a BBL Champion, has turned rather somber due to the current events. However, a champion was in fact crowned, albeit via an asterisk. Okay maybe not an asterisk but the 2022 Championship was called with the Everglade Squatches winning their second championship in franchise history. They defeated the Misfits who were outmatched (and inexperienced) in the bright lights of the championship.
The BBL had four postseason matchups this past weekend, none of which were technically officially completed. Three out of those four matches were called while the last place matchup was too close to make a decision, therefor resulting in a tie.
Championship
Squatches 127.91 – 94.35 Misfits
The Squatches are raising a banner once again, this time taking down the Misfits. Entering the playoffs as the highest scoring team in the league, they peaked at the right time and have another championship to show for it. If the Squatches had a vote for team MVP, I think they would vote for Josh Jacobs. A late round pick that turned into an every week starter and major contributor throughout the year, Jacobs was a mainstay in the lineup. Clear the streets in the Everglades, welcome to the black parade. No doubt that this team will “carry on.”
The lights were too bright for the Misfits who folded under the pressure of the championship battle. Clearly rattled, this team made some last minutes adjustments on his final roster that proved costly. Having to choose two between Juju, Miles Sanders and Mike Evans. I went to sleep Saturday night seeing Mike Evans and Juju as the selections. Fast forward to Sunday after 1 PM, Juju and Sanders were locked in. That quickly became one the worst decisions of the year, as Mike Evans scored 40 points on the bench and ultimately determined the outcome. But I just want to know what the thought process was that Juju should start over Mike Evans. Surely it wasn’t because Juju sounded cooler, but I’ll leave Ben’s family out of it. If Evans starts instead of Juju, Ben would have had 131 points which would have sealed the Title in his favor. I’ll just chalk that one up to inexperience. Overall, considering last year’s debacle, it was a step in the right direction for this franchise.
This matchup was not official because Ben still had kicker Tyler Bass. Common sense said Tyler Bass was not getting 35 points, hence giving the win to Ezra.
Third Place
Amazon Piranhas 110.00 – 96.70 HSG
The Piranhas were on pace to dominate and already had the lead before the game was called to wrap up the third-place honor. The Piranhas clearly built the right team, but roster mismanagement cost them a championship berth and ultimately a potential showdown in week 18 due to circumstances. This franchise has seen a lot of regular season success but struggles come playoff time. My advice to this team is to not overthink the team you’ve built and trust in your decisions. But what do I know.
No Jalen Hurts really did a number to this squad who dropped the third-place matchup to claim fourth place. It was a tough way to go out considering the regular season this team had constructed. This franchise is on the up and up though, making the playoffs the last five consecutive seasons. What’s better yet is Tim is sending out zingers in the chat calling out Ben’s start/sit decisions. Things look good for Tim.
This matchup was not official because Jordan still had Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and Gabe Davis. Common sense said Jordan would continue to build on the lead he built. Hence, giving Jordan the win.
Seventh Place
Sandstorms 196.31 – 66.26 GWW
The last two weeks of the Sandstorms have been one heck of an ending considering the year it’s been. Scoring north of 196 hopefully the Sandstorms can build on this next season. With six players scoring over 21 points, including Brady with 43, the Sandstorms get to pick their draft slot in next season’s draft. Is 2023 the year?
To put it simply, this was not a good week for GWW. Quite frankly, nothing GWW could have done could have accounted for the sandstorm that came through and destroyed everything GWW had. This wasn’t a good way to end the year, but is there really a good way to end the year when you are playing in the consolation bracket? Here’s to 2023!
This matchup was not official because Logan still had Devin Singletary and Galen had Tee Higgins and the Buffalo defense. Common sense said that Logan would clearly hold on to this win making this matchup the easiest to call. Hence, giving Logan the win.
Ninth Place
Thunder 113.14 – 105.07 Avalanche
This was the only matchup that we were not able to determine a winner. The Thunder was locked in to their 113 points while the Avalanche was waiting on Dawson Knox to complete the comeback. It would be unfair to lock in the scores as is since Dawson Knox was unable to complete the game. Therefore, the league determined that the ninth-place matchup would result in a tie.
And quite honestly, I think either team will take a tie at this point. Limping into the postseason while clawing and dragging at anything left, these franchises want to put 2022 behind them as quickly as possible as they head into 2023.
