What am I about to write? The 2022 BBL Championship is going to feature the Everglade Squatches and the Mistreated Misfits of all teams. With low scoring championship semifinals, the BBL certainly did not send their best this season. Teams waited until this week of all week to make questionable start/sit decisions and were rewarded with losses. I still can’t wrap my head about what happened this weekend.
You may be wondering, how did we get to this point?
Well, let’s get into it.
Breakdown
Mistreated Misfits 106.78 – 95.33 Amazon Piranhas
We are all Misfits this week! I said I would be shocked if the Misfits made it to the championship game and technically I still am. When you score 106 points in a semifinal matchup, you should be going to the third-place game. Yet the Misfits are playing for a Title while the Piranhas wasted another prime opportunity to raise a banner. The fighting Patrick Mahomes’s are carrying the Misfits and will need to carry them one more week for all the glory. The only way this team wins this week is if their opponent once again throws in the towel and starts the Broncos defense.
It’s Christmas day. Everything is good. You have a comfortable lead and you can relax with family and casually watch your fantasy team finish the job on Christmas. Jordan wishes it went that way. His Christmas quickly turned disastrous right before his own eyes. Going into Christmas day with Aaron Jones, DeAndre Hopkins and the Broncos defense, it appeared like he could get at least ten points at a minimum out of those three right? Wrong. Jordan walked out of the Sunday night game with -4.2 points. Not only did Russ ruin Thanksgiving dinner but he and the Broncos ruined Christmas too. Jordan got a little cute and played the uninspiring Broncos defense who promptly rewarded him with negative eight and a half points. -8.5! With a championship berth on the line, Jordan opted for the 4-10 Broncos defense against Baker Mayfield, rather than the Bucs defense against Trace McSorely. There is only so many times fantasy will bail you out for mind-numbing decisions and this was not one of them. Needing life support via Keenan Allen, he didn’t get it and the Piranhas are playing for third. Jordan now becomes the second team to finish first in the power rankings but fail to win the Title. Also, for those that say all you need is two strong quarterbacks to win 2-QB leagues, here’s exhibit A. Josh Allen and Joe Burrow combined for over 54 points. That should have won the week, yet the other eight position players combined for a meager 41 points. Just an overall embarrassing performance from the number one seeded team in the league.
Everglade Squatches 127.40 – 119.89 Hurts so Good
The Squatches will be playing for their second Title after narrowly scraping past the Jalen Hurts-less HSG. Outside of Jared Goff’s 31, the Squatches had a relatively balanced lineup and was supposed to breeze through this team. That wasn’t the case come Monday night, as they patiently watched Nick Foles implode to seal the berth to the championship. Unless the Squatches decide to start the Broncos defense, the Everglades should be hosting a championship parade late next week.
What else is there to say other than this team really missed its leader, Jalen Hurts. Only needing six points from Nick Foles on Monday night, Foles threw three interceptions and got -2 points sending HSG to the third place game. What is even more infuriating for this squad is if they would have kept Davis Mills as their QB 2, they would be playing in the Title game. HSG only needed competent QB play to win this week, but they didn’t get it. It was a nice season, but a disappointing ending for a team that could have won a championship. But all I want to know is, why wasn’t Cooper Kupp in the lineup?
Fifth Place Game
HCTM 118.27 – 103.26 Icecaps
HCTM won the fifth-place game against the Icecaps in yet another low scoring affair. With the win, HCTM will receive the fifth overall pick in the 2023 draft, while the Icecaps will be awarded the sixth overall pick.
Consolation
Sandstorms 140.34 – 90.48 Avalanche
This is the team the Sandstorms drafted back in August. Putting up over 140 (second most in the league), no bacon suit is in sight. They can thank Ekeler, Hockenson and the Jacksonville defense for avoiding a memorable 2023 draft for the wrong reasons.
GWW 157.09 – 122.43 Thunder
This is also the team that GWW drafted in August. Scoring a league high 157, perhaps this team should be playing for a championship. Gotta wonder where this was all season, but that will only make you more mad. They will avoid the bacon suit and will face the Sandstorms for seventh place.
CHAMPIONSHIP
Everglade Squatches vs. Mistreated Misfits
THIRD PLACE
Amazon Piranhas vs. HSG
SEVENTH PLACE
GWW vs. Sandstorms
LAST PLACE
Avalanche vs. Thunder
Each team is looking to avoid their first last place finish in the league and it should be a rather interesting battle of two really bad teams. Both without competent QB play, it will probably come down to the skill players at the end of the day. The Avalanche put up a league low 90 points last week while the Thunder shockingly got over 120. Don’t put me on the backburner, you know you gotta help me out.
Sound of crackling bacon intensifies…
Conclusion
We have arrived at the final week of the season and have rather interesting storylines to follow. Good luck to those playing for something on the line this week.
Watch out for those claiming they are from the league offices. They are not, and are in danger of being arrested for impersonating a public servant. If you know you know.
From the actual league office, we would like to wish you and yours a Happy New Year!
Cheers!
