Teams Grind out Wins in Low Scoring Week 3

Well, that was a low scoring week for the BBL. The average score was 117 and most teams fell below projections with the exception of championship front runner HSG, as well as HCTM. If you came out of a win this week, you have to be feeling good about grinding out a win on a lackluster week.

WINNERS

HSG

Looking like a clear front runner for the championship, HSG put up the highest point total of the week and dominated with 169 points with a win over GWW. Five players scored over 17 points including Hurts, Rodgers, Henry, Barkley and the Eagles defense. The Piranhas are on deck for this squad.

Good Starts: Hurts (33), Henry (23), Barkley (19), Eagles defense (25)

Squatches

Taking down the last undefeated team in the league (Icecaps), the Squatches had five starters score 14 or more, none of them being quarterbacks. Actually, the quarterbacks scored 10 and 13 respectively, so all the other position players stepped up. Just imagine if the quarterbacks actually do produce on a weekly basis. This team could certainly be playoff bound.

Good Starts: AJ Brown (16), Patterson (23), Kelce (15), Elliot (15)

Avalanche

The box score may look bad (107 points), but a win is a win. Four players scored over 16 including Lamb whose performance on Monday put this team over 100. Erk was even able to maneuver the Chargers defense who put up -4 points after allowing 38 points to the Jags. Then again, they didn’t need to do much to beat the Thunder. They are taking this win and moving to next week.

Good Starts: Lamb (17), Kirk (14), Brown (17)

Bad Starts: Waller (2), Chargers defense (-4)

Piranhas

The Piranhas can thank Josh Allen and Joe Burrow combining for over 60 points to earn them this win. Outside of 14 from the Dallas defense and from McCaffrey, five starters scored in single digits. Still, a win is a win.

Good Starts: Allen (32), Burrow (29)

Bad Starts: Davis (4), Jones (3)

HCTM

Scoring the second most points of the week, position players Devonta Smith, Nick Chubb and Mark Andrews played key roles in the 136-point performance. Five starters scored in single digits including four points from QB Justin Fields. But if the position players can continue to bail out Fields, this team has a chance to repeat.

Good Starts: Smith (25), Chubb (18), Andrews (22)

Bad Start: Fields (4)

LOSERS

GWW

Putting up a reasonable week, Lamar Jackson’s 49 points wasn’t enough to carry the rest of the roster. Granted, he would have beaten five other teams this week but played against the best team (HSG). Carson Wentz played like he has historically and got six points while five others scored in single digits. The lowly Thunder await next week.

Great Start: Lamar Jackson (49)

Bad Starts: Wentz (6), Bills defense (3)

Sandstorms

The Sandstorms have to be scratching their head at this point, but really everyone is. Russell Wilson was drafted to carry the team at the QB position and has not done any type of helping for this team. The other quarterbacks aren’t helpful either as Mac Jones may be out for awhile (injury) and Davis Mills is… well Davis Mills. The lone bright spot for this team was spending $15 for James Robinson which I’d say was the best waiver move all year. Sitting at 0-3, I’d look for this team to make some moves.

Good Starts: Robinson (19), Thielen (14)

Bad Starts: Wilson (8), Ekeler (6), Joseph (4)

Misfits

Another member of the sub 100 club has arrived and it’s the Misfits. Seven players scored in single digits but may be without David Montgomery for awhile due to injury. After scoring over 150 the first two weeks, the Misfits came crashing back to earth with 94 points. Let’s hope they get back on track next week.

Bad Starts: Hill (4), Sanders (5), Montgomery (1),

Icecaps

And yet another member has joined the sub 100 club on the season! They also had seven players score in single digits and took their first loss of the year to move to 2-1. The plus side for this team is that they stashed Khalil Herbert on the bench who may be an intriguing player going forward. Their 97 points was not enough to take down the Squatches and I am surprised we haven’t heard about it in the league chat. Ezra must be recovering from his weekend at the Firefly music festival.

Bad Starts: Mixon (4), Thomas (1), Dillon (4)

Thunder

Well, not even a $55 bid for Jimmy Garoppolo can save this team. Reminiscent of last season, the Thunder scored the least points in the league and have nowhere to go but down. While the season just started, it feels over for this squad. Eight players scored in single digits. EIGHT. After scoring 83 points last week, they one upped that one (actually one-downed) with an 82-point performance. GWW is on tap next week.

Bad Starts: Literally everyone

Updates

As I made a couple edits to the article, two trades have been processed.

The Sandstorms are sending Davis Mills, Deebo Samuel and Kyle Pitts to the Piranhas for Trevor Lawrence, Curtis Samuel and TJ Hockenson.

Hurts so Good is sending Ryan Tannehill and Johan Dotson to the Thunder for Marcus Mariota and Allen Lazard.

In other NFL news, there is a game across the pond this week in London. Make sure to set your alarms for Sunday morning!

Cheers!
