We have approached the final week in the BBL. The Tundra Icecaps and All I do is Winston are moving on to the Championship next week! The Icecaps are looking for back-to-back BBL Titles while All I do is Winston is looking for their first ever championship win.
On to the recaps!
Icecaps 155.72 – 122.59 HSG
ICECAPS- The Icecaps are moving on to their second consecutive championship appearance with the win this weekend. Nick Chubb and DaVante Adams had a great start to the week on Saturday afternoon while the Philadelphia defense and David Montgomery added solid performances on Sunday to clinch the win. The Icecaps will try to win the BBL for the second year in a row, trying to become the first team to do so. They will face All I do is Winston for the Title.
Great Starts: DaVante Adams (24), Nick Chubb (26), David Montgomery (19), Philadelphia Defense (25)
Bad Starts: Matthew Stafford (9), Tyreek Hill (2), Daniel Carlson (6)
HSG- The playoffs run ends for HSG after the loss to the Icecaps. 122 points isn’t bad considering the roster they started this weekend. Amari Cooper and Damien Harris combined for 44 points, but it wasn’t enough. Not having Travis Kelce hurt too, as replacement Noah Fant got three points. They will face the Squatches next week for third place.
Great Starts: Amari Cooper (15), Damien Harris (29)
Bad Starts: Baker Mayfield (14), AJ Dillon (6), Noah Fant (3), Justin Tucker (3)
All I do is Winston 150.40 – 135.14 Squatches
WINSTON- Scoring 150 on the backs of four players, Winston earned a spot to play for a BBL Championship next week. Josh Allen, Deebo Samuel, Joe Mixon and Mark Andrews carried this team with their performances. The only problem is they have to figure out their QB 2 position because at one point in the game Sunday night Taylor Heinicke had -7 points. He ended with a positive two points but that won’t get you a win in the Championship. They will face the Tundra Icecaps in the final.
Great Starts. Josh Allen (37), Deebo Samuel (20), Joe Mixon (26), Mark Andrews (20)
Bad Starts: Taylor Heinicke (2), Russell Gage (2), Christian Kirk (5)
SQUATCHES- The run for the playoffs ended this weekend for the Squatches as they fell to Winston. The Squatches were not even competitive in this matchup early on, but Dak Prescott tried to single handedly complete the comeback scoring 39 points. Rashaad Penny’s 20 was also a good start but everyone else did not pull their weight. Justin Herbert and Jonathan Taylor only combined for 25 points which certainly wasn’t expected considering what they have meant to the Squatches all year. They left Jaylen Waddle and DeVonta Smith on the bench and if they would have played both they would have won. They will play in the third-place game against HSG.
Great Starts: Dak Prescott (39), Rashaad Penny (20)
Bad Starts: Marquise Brown (5), Brett Maher (3)
Benched: DeVonta Smith (14), Jaylen Waddle (16)
Sandstorms 178.65 – 130.36 GWW
SANDSTORMS- The Sandstorms dominated this week to win the fifth-place matchup. Joe Burrow destroyed the Ravens throwing for 525 yards and 4 touchdowns and led the Sandstorms to the win. Chase Edmonds and the Dallas defense also dominated this week as the outcome was never really in doubt. The Sandstorms end the year finished in fifth place, but this season will be remembered as the season of missed opportunities. Otherwise, a great final showing for this team.
Great Starts: Joe Burrow (46), Chase Edmonds (20), Dallas defense (32)
GWW- GWW will finish the season in sixth place after losing this week to the Sandstorms. George Kittle started off the week on Thursday and underperformed with two points, which was indicative of how the weekend would go. Tee Higgins and Justin Jackson combined for 60 points, but they could not overcome the combined 18 points from the quarterback position. As mentioned, they finished in sixth place this season.
Great Starts: Tee Higgins (33), Justin Jackson (27)
Bad Starts: Derek Carr (11), Drew Lock (7), Tyler Lockett (3), George Kittle (2)
Thunder 111.51 – 110.31 Piranhas
THUNDER- In the closest matchup of the week, the Thunder got their first win since early November, edging out the Piranhas by a point. Making some Sunday morning adjustments by benching Cam Newton, Ian Book was going to be the starter for about an hour until they opted for Josh Johnson ten minutes before the 1:00 PM slate of games. That turned out to be a week winning decision, as Johnson turned out to be the high scorer for the squad and critical for the win. Going into the Sunday night game down eight points, Ezekiel Elliot scored two touchdowns and totaled 16 points while the Piranhas’ CeeDee Lamb scored seven which clinched the win for the Thunder. Still not a strong week, or team for that matter, half the roster scored single digits on the way to 111 points. The Thunder will play Philly Special for the seventh-place game.
Solid Starts: Josh Johnson (23), Stefon Diggs (15), Ezekiel Elliot (16), Kansas City defense (15)
Bad Starts: Keenan Allen (4), James Robinson (1), Rob Gronkowski (2)
PIRANHAS- The Piranhas were on the wrong end of the closest matchup of the week, sending them to the last place matchup with Hipple’s Heroes. They as well made some Sunday morning moves picking up and starting Jamaal Williams over Chuba Hubbard (+7), which proved to be a great move. What wasn’t a good decision was starting the Los Angeles Chargers defense who scored negative one and half points. Had Jordan just left that spot empty, the Piranhas would have won the matchup. Also, if they would have started the suffocating Miami defense against rookie Ian Book and the Saints, we would be having a much different conversation. They will look to end the season on a high note next week.
Good Starts: Aaron Rodgers (25), Antonio Brown (12)
Bad Start: Los Angeles Chargers defense (-1.5)
Benched: Miami defense (32)
Philly Special 143.85 – 80.65 Heroes
PHILLY- Philly Special had a great week and punched their ticket to the seventh-place game against the Thunder. AJ Brown started off the matchup on Thursday with 22 points as Philly eased through the Heroes. Patrick Mahomes, Ja’Marr Chase and Dalton Schultz all had good outings on the weekend. Eight starters scored doubles digits in the convincing win. They will look to end the season on a three-game winning streak.
Great Starts: Patrick Mahomes (28), AJ Brown (22), Dalton Schultz (15), Green Bay defense (15)
Bad Start: Saquon Barkley (3)
HEROES- This is the sixth time out of the last seven weeks that this team has not cleared 85 points. They will face the Piranhas in the last place game.
Great Start: Tampa Bay defense (24)
Bad Starts: Mac Jones (5), Michael Gallup (5), Cortland Sutton (3), Latavius Murray (2), Chris Boswell (4)
