Week 15 Recap (Quarterfinals)

What a great week to be an NFL football fan! We are in the middle of an eight out of ten day stretch that will feature at least one NFL game, which is great news, especially for fantasy. The Everglade Squatches and Hurts so Good advanced into the next round of the BBL playoffs, sending GWW and the Sandstorms home.

On to the recaps!

Squatches 128.92 – 121.74 GWW

SQUATCHES- The Squatches prevailed in the closest quarterfinal matchup this week, winning by seven points. Setting a rather pedestrian lineup, the Squatches can thank three starters for carrying them to the semifinals. Mainstays Justin Herbert and Jonathan Taylor had great performances along with the Minnesota defense on the week. Four starters scored single digits, including Ezra’s favorite Tik Tok artist Chase Claypool, but nonetheless the Squatches find themselves in the semifinals for the second consecutive year. They will face All I do is Winston this week.

Great Starts: Justin Herbert (27), Jonathan Taylor (24), Minnesota defense (24)

Bad Starts: Cordarrelle Patterson (2), Chase Claypool (1)

GWW- What could have been. Injuries plagued GWW this week with Mike Evans, Leonard Fournette, and Antonio Gibson (briefly) each leaving their respective games with injuries. Although the fact that they were even in this matchup is because of Tyler Huntley, who scored 41 points on Sunday. Austin Ekeler also did a good job on Thursday night, but the rest of the roster just did not have it this week. They as well had four starters in single digits, but this story is more about what they didn’t do. GWW benched the New Orleans Saints defense which would have won the matchup, but I can’t fault that move because the Saints were playing against the Bucs and Tom Brady. Also left on the bench was Miles Sanders, which subbed in for Fournette also could have won this matchup. But I think the most frustrating thing has got to be the fact that Galen had the Minnesota defense on his roster but dropped them early Friday afternoon (Dec 17). Then early Sunday morning (Dec. 19), Ezra picked up the Minnesota defense and proceeded to use those eventual 24 points on Galen to swing the outcome of the matchup. It was just a brutal sequence of events for Galen. GWW will play in the fifth-place game this week.

Great Starts: Tyler Huntley (41), Austin Ekeler (14)

Tough Starts: Derek Carr (12), Mike Evans (1), Tee Higgins (2), Leonard Fournette (7)

Benched: Miles Sanders (15), New Orleans defense (21)

HSG 137.39 – 100.27 Sandstorms

HSG- Travis Kelce put up 32 points on Thursday night and carried HSG to the win this week to move on to the semifinals. The Buffalo defense also put up a solid performance, as well as Jalen Hurts late on Tuesday night. The rest of the lineup on the other hand missed projections. Four players scored less than seven points, but it didn’t matter to complete the upset over the Sandstorms. They will face the Tundra Icecaps this week.

Great Starts: Jalen Hurts (30), Travis Kelce (32), Buffalo defense (21)

Bad Starts: Amari Cooper (0), Michael Carter (2), Justin Tucker (6)

SANDSTORMS- I don’t think this week could have gone any worse for the Sandstorms. Scoring their second lowest output of the season, they picked the worst time to do it during the first round of the playoffs. Outside of the Dallas defense and fantasy MVP Cooper Kupp, no player scored more than 15 points, including quarterbacks. Six starters scored less than eight points on the week. One could only imagine if this team had beaten Hipple’s Heroes in week 12, they would have had a bye this week and safe from elimination. It’s a tough loss after a promising season which will be remembered for other reasons. The Sandstorms will play in the fifth-place game this week.

Good Start: Cooper Kupp (26) Dallas defense (17)

Bad Starts: Dionte Johnson (5), Najee Harris (2), Alvin Kamara (4), Mike Gesicki (4), Hunter Renfrow (3)
