Week 2 Recap

Another eventful week in the BBL! Strong showings from Hurts so Good and GalensWinningWinners highlighted the top scorers in the league, while the Squatches put up a week to forget as the only team not to score in triple digits.

On to the recaps!

Philly Special 141.03 – 129.58 Sahara Sandstorms

Philly Special improved to 2-0 on the year with a win over the Sandstorms in week 2. Mahomes (30), Cousins (31) and the Chicago defense (24) led the charge for over half of their total points. Philly also had five starters score single digits on the week despite the win. Either way, they will take the 2-0 record into week 3.

The Sandstorms record dropped to 1-1 after the loss to Philly Special. Kyler Murray again dominated for this squad, scoring 35 points. Mike Williams (15), Darrell Henderson (15) and Najee Harris (14) were all strong starts for Sahara. However, the Sandstorms have to be kicking themselves for not starting Cooper Kupp (29), as those points on the bench would have won the matchup. They will look to take down the controversial Hipple’s Heroes next week.

Hurts so Good 170.77 – 162.10 All I do is Winston

It was another great week from Hurts so Good, who scored over 170 points which was the highest in the league. Outside of Corey Davis (0) and kicker Justin Tucker (7), no player for this team scored under 12 points. Tyler Lockett continued his hot start to the season scoring 24, while the Bills defense completely destroyed Miami for 32 points. HSG looks like one of the stronger teams in the league after these short two weeks.

Despite scoring the third highest points this week, week two is going to go down as a loss for All I do is Winston. But if we really dive into the box score, this team was two sided. Five starters scored less than 9 points, while the other five starters scored over 18 points. Derrick Henry himself tried to will this team to victory scoring over 43 points, but Winston could still not win this one. They quickly find themselves with an 0-2 record.

GalensWinningWinners 167.24 – 107.84 Tundra Icecaps

Three players dominated for GWW this week including Lamar Jackson (31), Tampa Bay defense (28) and Aaron Jones (37). Otherwise GWW had a middling lineup this week but did not need too much to take down the reigning champion Icecaps. We said last week that this team has potential and we saw that this week but has even more potential which we will get into later in this article.

Let’s just chalk this one up to a bad week for the Icecaps. Only scoring 107 points, the Icecaps had one player hit their projected point total with Ty’son Williams scoring 10 points (projected 9). Half the roster scored less than 9 points with one starter scoring none. Kicker Jason Sanders scored zero points for the Icecaps which does not come at a surprise. Historically, Jack has picked kickers who score zero points multiple times in his BBL career, a couple times even in the most crucial matchups. He has since picked up Daniel Carlson to replace Sanders, so I’d say keep an eye on Carlson this week. Otherwise, I would not panic with this team construction.

Tropical Thunder 126.09 – 77.60 Everglade Squatches

After barely scoring over 90 points last week, the Thunder managed 126 points this week, which turned out to be the third least points scored. The Thunder had a relatively average lineup, with eight starters scoring over 11 points, but no starter exceeding 23 points. Edwards-Helaire scored 2 points for this team and has not been great in the first two weeks on the season. Still not an excellent showing for the Thunder but certainly an improvement from last week. Their opponent also posed zero threat to the Thunder’s chances of winning, so they will take that 1-1 record into week 3.

Well, I am not even sure where to begin. After the Thunder scored 90 points last week, I did not think a team would ever score lower than that during the season. It only took one week for that record to break when the Squatches scored a cool 77 points. Eight starters for this team scored combined for 47.58 points. Justin Herbert scored the most points for this team with 17 points and Calvin Ridley chipped in for 12 but it was not even remotely close to a competent lineup. Is it time to panic? Who’s to say, because the bench was just as bad outside of Derek Carr’s 28 points on the bench. The Squatches bench at kickoff combined for 12 points from four players. And that isn’t even including Josh Jacobs who was declared out before the game. If I know anything about the Everglade Squatches and their fanbase, this manager will certainly make some changes in the near future.

Hipple’s Heroes 137.83 – 129.42 Amazon Piranhas

A 39-point performance from the ageless Tom Brady helped the Heroes to a solid win this week. Four starters scored less than 8 points including quarterback Mac Jones but that did not stop the Heroes from getting their first win this season against the Piranhas. They also got 17 from Dalvin Cook, 15 from Rob Gronkowski and 13 from Damien Harris. We will reference the Heroes later because once again, they elected to make a quick trade on Sunday for the second week in a row.

Aaron Rodgers almost single handedly brought the Piranhas back for a come from behind win. Needing 43 points from Aaron Rodgers on Monday night to win, Rodgers scored 34 which is still an impressive amount but just not enough for the Piranhas.  Half of this lineup scored single digits which certainly didn’t help. If the Piranhas would have started Taylor Heinicke instead of Trevor Lawrence, the Piranhas could be staring at a 2-0 record at the top of the BBL. Instead, they sit at 1-1 going into week 3.

Other News Around the League

As alluded to earlier, a trade was completed once again on a Sunday afternoon for the second week in a row, this time between Hipple’s Heroes and GalensWinningWinners.

Fun Fact: This is the eighth season of the BBL, and no trades have ever been completed on a Sunday, yet this season we have had two in two consecutive weeks.

The reason for this? We can probably point to the manager of Hipple’s Heroes, who appears to be making highly questionable, suspicious, reactionary, and panicked trades after the Sunday slate of games. He does realize the fantasy season is 16 weeks, right? We can only hope this basic knowledge was instilled in the man, but who is to say?

For those of you who think that we as a league are being too hard on the manager of Hipple’s Heroes, let’s take a look at the most current trade completed this past weekend.

Hipple’s Heroes receives

Tampa Bay defense

GalensWinningWinners receives

Washington defense

George Kittle

Julio Jones

Yes, this was a real trade initiated by Hipple’s Heroes no less, which makes this even more intriguing. Some may try to justify this trade that it is fair, but at this current point in time there is zero justification for this trade and those who try to justify it as fair look quite dumb.

Unfortunately, since there was no clear evidence of collusion but rather a lapse in judgment, the trade will be processed later this afternoon.

Either way, some new villains emerged in Books Boss League going into week 3.

Cheers!
