It’s that time of the year again! Pumpkin spice, corn mazes, apple cider, and cooler weather are all right around the corner. This also means that it is time for some fantasy football. After completing a successful inaugural season, the BBL Lite league is back for a second year with several returning owners as well as plenty of new faces. Former owner Ben Hipple was chosen after a thorough interview process to fill the open spot in the BBL. As such, he will not be fielding a team in the BBL Lite. Please read on to learn more about the teams and what can be expected.
Team: Sunday Cook Out
Owner: Trevor Hosler
The motivation is surely there. Will this lead to execution on the field? Trevor was one of the many applicants for the open BBL owner position. After learning that a more experienced owner was selected, Trevor opted into joining the BBL Lite so that he could establish himself for the next potential BBL slot. Trevor is hoping to come out of the gates firing this season as he takes on another new team (Club Campbell) in the first week. As of the writing of this preview, Trevor is projected to score the most points in week 1 with 166.73. However, projections are just that: projections. Sunday Cook Out will look for such stars as Dalvin Cook and last year’s league MVP, Aaron Rodgers to have big years. If Trevor can make a name for himself in this league, he may position himself to have a very bright Fantasy Football career.
Team: Club Campbell
Owner: Dylan Campbell
Well, that’s one way to start your fantasy season. Club Campbell was handed the worst draft grade according to Yahoo in the entire league, earning a measly “D” rating. The scrutiny was most harsh in regards to Dylan’s head-scratching selection of Trey Lance in the 9th round. Maybe he knows something we don’t? Even after a controversial draft performance, Club Campbell certainly has enough star power on his roster to overpower teams. Big numbers from Kyler Murray, Derrick Henry, and Devante Adams could take this team to the promised land. Will this team prove Yahoo wrong, or will the voices of the doubters get louder every week? Follow along to find out. Club Campbell takes on Sunday Cook Out week 1.
Team: Boyd if you don’t
Owner: Lou Bosch
Let’s hope that Auto Draft did this team well. Even after several reminders were sent out by the League Commissioner, Lou forgot to log in for the live draft. It has yet to be seen if the selections make for a strong roster. This team is built around star power in the back field. Zeke Elliott, Aaron Jones and Antonio Gibson could form a powerful 1-2-3 punch. Fans of Lou’s franchise are left wondering why the team name is based on a pun for a player that is currently sitting on the bench in Tyler Boyd. This squad is looking to make a big splash in their second season in the league. To start, they must go up against The Dirty B in what is projected to be the closest week 1 matchup with only 0.89 points separating the two teams. Get your popcorn ready!
Team: The Dirty B
Owner: Ben Burkhart
As go the Quarterbacks, so will go this team. As a first-year owner, Ben looked to quickly make a statement in the draft. He did just that by selecting two stud QBs early on. There is no question that the pairing of Patrick Mahomes/Josh Allen is the best duo at the position in the league. Strong performances by them could lead to several blowouts. However, by using this draft strategy, position players were not the primary focus. Ben will be hoping that players such as Miles Sanders have big years. Yahoo gave Ben good marks for his decisions by awarding him with a “B+” draft grade. But, championships are not handed out in September.
Team: The Cob
Owner: Rob Greenwald
The Cob revenge tours starts here. Fueled by the pain of a runner-up finish, this team is looking to finish on top this year. Looking at this roster, there is no visible weak spots as of this moment. The Cob is led by standout players such as Lamar Jackson, Calvin Ridley, and George Kittle. If this team can stay healthy, watch out. They will look to exercise their demons as they go against “Thought This Was Madden” week 1. As Rob relocates to Pittsburgh for a job, we hope that he puts as much effort into this fantasy season as he did last. Afterall, there is no Ben Hipple standing in his way now. The Cob could be the last team standing.
Team: Thought This Was Madden
Owner: Gabe Stewart
Gabe comes in as possibly the biggest wild card in the league. Gabe did not apply for the BBL previously and he also did not participate in last year’s BBL Lite season. He joined this year because his friend, Ben Burkhart, suggested it. What else makes us question this team is the fact that the roster was chosen by auto draft. We’re not too sure what to think of Gabe’s tenure so far. That being said, one cannot question that he has a strong roster on his hands. Russ Wilson and Alvin Kamara will look to captain this squad to a playoff spot. The week 1 matchup is intimidating as Gabe must go up against last year’s runner-up in The Cob. We’re looking forward to learning more about Gabe’s chops as a fantasy owner.
Team: Bishop Sycamore
Owner: Gabe Gray
Is it obvious that this owner like the Niners? With 3 of his starters playing for the San Francisco 49ers, one is left guessing if Gabe was blinded by his personal fandom while making selections in the draft. That being said, there is plenty of skill on this team, especially at the RB spot. Nick Chubb and Saquon Barkley could put this team over the top. However, the team is currently fielding two major question marks at the QB position. Carson Wentz and Jimmy G come into this season with little expectations. If these players can light up the scoreboards, Gabe could have an embarrassment of riches. However, if they wallow and get benched, he could have a serious issue on his hands. Bishop Sycamore is hoping that they mined some gold in the draft.
Team: Build the Waller
Owner: Tim Sokoloski
An impressive draft has led to impressively-sized expectations. Yahoo awarded this team the highest draft grade in the league with an “A-“. As of now, it is hard to pinpoint a weakness that this team has. Outstanding players such as Tom Brady, Justin Herbert, and CMC headline the early-season favorite of the league. However, this team could crumble under the proverbial weight that has been placed on them. Anything short of a league championship will be viewed as a disappointment for first-year owner Tim. This squad will look to come out of the floodgates early on as they matchup against Bishop Sycamore week 1. A win would begin the process of proving the early-season accolades to be correct and well-warranted. A loss, however, could lead to cries of “overrated” from the pundits and haters.
Team: blake’s Team
Owner: Blake Ober
There’s already plenty of reasons to think that this season will be a failure for this team. The 2020 year appeared to be too much for Blake to handle as he failed to properly set his lineup as the weeks went by. Hopes that the 2021 team may be managed better are already dwindling as Blake still has his RB2 spot empty as of the press release of this article. Fans of “blake’s Team” are also left wondering why the “B” in “blake’s” is not capitalized but “Team” is. So far there are a lot of questions and not a lot of answers. Perhaps Blake has more up his sleeve that we don’t know about. A win against the Sante Fe Sloths week 1 could go a long way in proving that this year will be different. Continued managerial laziness could lead to a new owner replacing Blake in 2022. This preview may seem harsh but readers must remember that Blake probably won’t take the moment to read it anyway.
Team: Sante Fe Sloths
Owner: Ezra Gorman
Last up we have the Santa Fe Sloths. This group is looking to build on last years playoff appearance. Ezra is the only owner to have a team in the BBL as well as the BBL Lite this year. Securing a championship in both leagues would be a unique and impressive accomplishment. As of writing, the Sloths are set to have a lopsided matchup week 1. Currently projected to beat blake’s Team by 32, the Sloths cannot allow themselves to grow complacent. Players such as Jonathan Taylor and Dak Prescott cannot allow the team to overlook their opponent.
