Intro

Welcome to week 10! The Tundra Icecaps stand at the top of the standings with Wentz upon a Time and GWW closely behind. The Sandstorms were carried by Dalvin Cook once again on route to another win, while Philly Special lost their fourth-straight and the Piranhas lost their fifth-straight. Only four weeks to go to clinch a playoff spot!

On to the matchups!

GalensWinningWinners vs. Everglade Squatches

GWW scored over 159 points to take down the Piranhas who were 9 points behind at 150 points. GWW got 30 plus points from Drew Brees, Deshaun Watson and Christian McCaffrey to move to 6-3 on the year. However, it appears McCaffrey will be out for week 10 after sustaining a shoulder injury late in the game Sunday. This could pose an issue as potential replacement Joe Mixon has not been cleared for team drills yet, further complicating the backfield for GWW. Sitting at second place in the league at 6-3, GWW has the most points in the league by a substantial margin (next closest 105 points behind). GWW has set themselves up for success down the stretch and are primed to make a playoff run.

Another strong performance for the Squatches last week, as they scored over 165 points to beat Philly Special easily. Their quarterback duo has certainly made this team a playoff contender, with Mahomes and Herbert combining for over 70 points last week. Also adding to the point total, was waiver wire pickup Jerick McKinnon, who saved his fantasy day with a touchdown with four seconds to go on Thursday night for a 15.30-point performance. The Squatches could have scored more, but they started the Chiefs defense, who scored zero points. They will look for bye week fill-ins for Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, who have helped propel the squad to multiple wins. The Squatches also made a shocking trade earlier this week, when they traded Justin Herbert and Jonathan Taylor for Matthew Stafford, Kareem Hunt and Mike Davis. It’s a bold move to trade one of your best players in Justin Herbert, but I think if you’re the Squatches you have to make this move. But then again, do you?

Sahara Sandstorms vs. Tundra Icecaps

And here’s another episode of the Dalvin Cook Show, presented by the Sahara Sandstorms. Dalvin Cook exploded for 41.20 points, along with a 30.66-point performance from Matt Ryan pushed the Sandstorms to a win over Wentz 149.56-127.40. The Sandstorms have quietly rattled off four-straight wins after that 78-point performance in week 5. The Sandstorms also look to add running back Nick Chubb this week coming back from injury, which should help the depth of this squad after losing David Johnson to a concussion. Sitting at fourth overall in the league at 6-3, the Sandstorms are in a good position going forward.

‘Never settle for complacency’, must echo in the Icecaps mind every morning when they wake up. After winning last week scoring 136 points on the back of Kyler Murray (48.52), the Icecaps made not one but two trades this week. The first trade involved moving on from Tua Tagovailoa and Buffalo defense and receiving Kareem Hunt and Pittsburgh defense* (see below). He then turned newly acquired Kareem Hunt, Mike Davis, and Matthew Stafford into Justin Herbert and Jonathan Taylor. These are championship caliber moves by a manager who really wants to change the narrative surrounding their franchise. All the Icecaps have to do next week is outscore Dalvin Cook, which is easier said than done. That could be a problem if the Icecaps get a showing like they did last week, when eight of their starters scored less than 13 points. Hopefully week 10 proves to be higher scoring for the Icecaps.

Interesting Factoid of the Week

*The Tundra Icecaps traded for the number one scoring defense in the league earlier this week, the Pittsburgh Steelers (156.50 points). This marks the third team that the Steelers defense has been on this season. What is fascinating, is that teams that have started the Steelers defense, are a collective 0-8 on the year. Let’s hope the Icecaps can break that trend.

Tropical Thunder vs. Wentz upon a Time

Tropical Thunder was the highest scorer last week, putting up 168.67 points to move to 5-4 on the season. Led by Josh Allen (44.40), Drew Lock (35.97), and Terry McLaurin (19.00), the Thunder only had two players score in single digits. The Thunder had a poor start in Justin Jackson, who scored zero points due to an injury sustained on the first drive of the game for the Chargers. The Thunder are in fifth place in the league but face a tough matchup this week against Wentz upon a Time. A loss doesn’t hurt them, but it also doesn’t help.

Wentz upon a Time suffered a loss last week at the hands of the Sandstorms, falling to 6-3 and third overall in the standings. Russell Wilson and Lamar Jackson only combined for 50 points, while Wentz also had three starters score less than five points. Ideally, Wentz is going to get back Miles Sanders this week from injury, which will help out the running back depth as David Montgomery is battling a concussion. Wentz wins and loses by their quarterbacks, so if they plan to win this weekend, they need strong outputs from Russell Wilson and Lamar Jackson.

Fresh Prince of Helaire vs. Amazon Piranhas

Another loss for Fresh Prince, this time to Tropical Thunder. Scoring 141.61 points, Fresh Prince jumped out to an early lead Thursday night after Aaron Rodgers (38.75) and DaVante Adams (25.80) gave them a commanding lead. The lead slowly dwindled throughout Sunday afternoon and was slowly overtaken by the Thunder. At 1-8, this team cannot catch a break, and can plan for the consolation bracket. They did get a nice performance from waiver wire pickup Jake Luton (25.26) who filled in for Carson Wentz admirably. It has been a lost year for this team.

The Piranhas lost a close one last week, losing to GWW and increasing their losing streak to five games. The Piranhas were able to score over 150 points, thanks to Cam Newton (28.01), Tyreek Hill (26.10), and James Robinson (18.90). Philip Rivers cost this team, only scoring 8.73 points at the quarterback position. They will turn to newly traded for Tua Tagovailoa this week in hopes to turn the season around immediately. Sitting at 3-6, the Piranhas are not out of playoff contention, but a loss would essentially take them out of the picture. This week is a must win.

Prairie Dawgz vs. Philly Special

The Dawgz lost again moving to 2-7 and ninth in the standings. Other than Ben Roethlisberger (33.34) and Nick Foles (27.85), the team could not pull ahead of the Icecaps. Starting Darius Slayton and Ronald Jones held them back, as those two players combined for 2.60 points. Also, out of the playoff picture, the Dawgz can only hope they can do better in the Consolation bracket.

Philly Special has gone from contender to pretender in just a short four weeks. They lost again, falling to sixth in the standings at 5-4. They were barely able to scrape past the triple digit mark, scoring only 100.66 points. Kirk Cousins and the Titans defense were the only good starts, as Cousins scored 28 points while the Titans scored 22 points for Philly. Otherwise, this team was largely unimpressive, with seven players scoring in single digits. Philly does not look like a favorite to make the playoffs, even after their 5-0 start to the season. It’s just a testament to how competitive the BBL is.
