We’re a month into the 2020 fantasy football season, who would have thought? Concerns have not evaporated though, if anything they may have risen in the past week. With news of the recent positive tests around the league, BBL managers will have to maneuver potential game postponements in the following weeks to field a starting roster. Monitoring the waiver wire will be crucial.
On to the week five matchups!
Amazon Piranhas vs. Wentz upon a Time
The Piranhas won last week bringing their record to 3-1, with a convincing win over Tropical Thunder. The Piranhas put up 142.88 points on the back of Dak Prescott (49.53) and Chris Carson (25.50). Despite having five players score under eight points, it was enough to take down the lowly Thunder. They will need another strong Dak Prescott performance to compete this week. They will look to bring their winning streak to two when they face Spaces divisional rival Wentz upon a Time.
Wentz upon a Time suffered their first loss last week at the hands of GalensWinningWinners. Only scoring 129.32 points, this team seems vulnerable when Russell Wilson doesn’t score 50 points for this squad. Wentz is tied with the Piranhas for first place in the Spaces division at 3-1 and will look to improve that mark after this week. They will continually lean on Russell Wilson and Lamar Jackson to win this week.
Tundra Icecaps vs. Everglade Squatches
Well that’s a tough way to lose. The Icecaps scored 163.81 points but fell short to Philly Special who put up a league high 197.96 points. It probably did not help that he started a player with zero points (Calvin Ridley), but you can’t win them all. They were also dealt a substantial blow when they lost Austin Ekeler to a multi-week leg injury. They will turn to Antonio Gibson to fill in, or hope that Raheem Mostert is back from injury to start this week.
The Squatches dropped another one last week, in heartbreaking fashion to the Sahara Sandstorms to fall to 1-3. The margin of defeat was 0.61 points, thanks to some garbage time throws from Matt Ryan and the Falcons in the final minute of the game. A bright spot for this team? Starting Justin Herbert who rattled off 30.40 points for the Squatches. They will look for a win this week, but it is a tall order against a strong Icecaps team.
Sahara Sandstorms vs. GalensWinningWinners
It’s why we play the game. Mentioned above, a couple late throws from Matt Ryan helped the Sandstorms barely scrape by the Squatches to bring their record to 2-2. In all seriousness though, this team should be thanking the head-head format this week. With their quarterback position combining for 20.65 points (yes that’s the total of two quarterbacks) 120.55 points was enough to get them a win this week. It also does not help that starting running back Nick Chubb went down with an injury and is headed to the IR. They will face the surging WinningWinners.
Yes, GalensWinningWinners have in fact been surging. Putting up back to back weeks up over 160 points, GalensWiningWinners has found themselves back in the hunt for the playoffs. Led by a 35.40-point performance from Odell Beckham Jr., the WinningWinners took down Wentz upon a Time to even their record at 2-2. Also impressive, is the fact they were without Derrick Henry last week due to the Titans-Steelers postponed game. After falling to 0-2, they have righted the ship back to smoother waters. They battle divisional foe Sahara Sandstorms this week to see who can go to 3-2.
Tropical Thunder vs. Fresh Prince of Helaire
This is three straight losses for the Thunder, bringing their record to 1-3. Putting up the lowest score in week four, 119.12 points is not going to bring you home any wins. It might also help if the kicker and defensive unit didn’t combine for 2.5 points, which they will look to address this week. If there is any hope for this team, it’s getting a win this week against last place Fresh Prince of Helaire. They need Josh Allen to provide another solid performance.
The only 0-4 team remaining, Fresh Prince needs to put last month behind them as soon as possible. To be fair they put up a respectable 151.97 points last week, but fell to a 179.26-point explosion by the Dawgz. Poor roster management cost this team a starting player last week, as they were not able to get a sub for DeVante Adams after he was declared out early Monday morning. They will also not have the focal point of their team this week, as Aaron Rodgers is on a bye week. If the Fresh Prince has any hope of making a late playoff push, they desperately need a win this week.
Prairie Dawgz vs. Philly Special
The Dawgz got their first win last week to bring their record to 1-3, after scoring over 179 points last week. Led by a furious outburst from Joe Mixon (39.60) and George Kittle (30.10), this is exactly what they needed to get back on track. The only problem? They face the number one seed in the league Philly Special. They will need another strong performance from Mixon and Kittle to pull off the upset.
4-0 feels good doesn’t it? It sure does to Philly Special after they scored a league best 197.96 points last week to claim the top spot in the BBL standings. With the exception of the Seattle defense (7), Philly had no player score less than 14 points. Most notably Tom Brady, who scored 40.71 points and kicker Brandon McManus who scored 18.7 points. That is just a glimpse of that lineup last week. Philly Special has played a perfect month of September and have just about cemented themselves into the postseason race this winter. They will look to go 5-0 after this week.
Closing Thoughts
Thanks for reading, and good luck to all managers!
