Week 3 Preview

Can it really be week 3 already? With two weeks down, the season continues to march on. Teams continue to make their case for best team in the league, while others are looking to put the first two weeks behind them.

Read below for the week 3 matchups.

GalensWinningWinners vs. Amazon Piranhas

Oh no, not again. Galen has dropped their first two contests to start the year 0-2, while also putting up the second lowest points scored in the league. We should mention that this squad almost pulled out a win last week against the Squatches, as they dropped a tight contest 135.42-133.58. They are kicking themselves for starting Nyheim Hines (0.4pts) over Mark Ingram II (14.70) as it proved to be the difference. They also completed the first trade of the season, when they shipped out the Steelers defense to get Todd Gurley in return. They weren’t done, as they made another trade getting running back Jonathan Taylor from the Prairie Dawgz. What did they give up? Chris Godwin, Mark Ingram II and Darryl Henderson. We can only hope this manager turns it around quickly to avoid three consecutive last place finishes.

Showing their muscles once again, the Piranhas handled the Sandstorms last week putting up over 170 points to start 2-0. Always striving to be better, the Piranhas was the other part of that trade mentioned above with the Steelers defense. Now with the arguably league best defensive unit, the Piranhas are dare I say, destined to make a deep playoff run. The only thing standing in their way is injuries, and poor start sit decisions.

Sahara Sandstorms vs. Fresh Prince of Helaire

Another week, another tough break for the Sandstorms. Scoring a formidable 159.26 points, they were overtaken by the Piranhas last week. That makes two weeks in a row scoring over 155 and not coming out with a win. Even with these tough breaks, the Sandstorms should not be concerned about their 0-2 start. They still have one of the stronger teams in the league. The wins will come. However, they may be forced to start Sam Darnold or Nick Mullens at their quarterback two position this week. [cringe]

Fresh Prince has now mismanaged their lineup both weeks one and two. Also 0-2, they easily could have walked away a winner, and is now looking at a daunting week three face-off. Not only is it demoralizing to lose when your opponent’s quarterback scored -0.73 (Cousins), they also had James Connor staring at them in the face on the bench with 20 points. Just not a good look for this manager, with too many missed opportunities. They seem to have the pieces to win but cannot pull it together. Will that change this week?

Tropical Thunder vs. Philly Special

154.92 points was not enough to get a win against the Icecaps last week. Actually, not even an extra 40 points could have gotten a win last week, the Icecaps were just that good. Currently at 1-1, the Thunder are somewhat in the middle of the pack in regard to strength of team. Putting up over 150 each week, they have done something right but need to do something with their roster soon, as they were forced to start Zack Moss (4.70 pts) in their flex position last week. They have made a myriad of waiver claims this week for running backs, and will look to pick the right one to start for week three.

Philly Special, is looking strong at 2-0. After scoring a league high week one, they cooled off a bit and put out 136.15, yet it was still enough to beat Fresh Prince of Helaire despite starting Kirk Cousins (-0.73). Carried by Aaron Jones with 44.60 points, they will look for a little more balanced production from their other positions to take out the Thunder this week. Otherwise, Philly Special has a strong roster.

Everglade Squatches vs. Wentz upon a Time

Well that’s a way to get a win. Limping to a victory over GalensWinningWinners last week, they stand at 1-1. This team should consider changing their team name to the Infirmary, as the injury bug has plagued this team, and were not even into week three. After losing Le’Veon Bell and AJ Brown after week 1, they saw Drew Lock and number one overall pick Christian McCaffrey go down to injury, and are expected to miss several weeks. To add insult injury, the Squatches started Will Fuller who scored 0 points. One of the few positives surrounding this franchise is despite all this misfortune, they came out of week 2 with a win. How? We’re still trying to figure that one out.

Wentz upon a Time was clicking again this past week and have jumped out to an early 2-0 record. Russell Wilson, Lamar Jackson, Miles Sanders, and David Montgomery alone totaled over 100 points. This is not good of you are any other team in the league especially his opponent, the Prairie Dawgz. On top of the Spaces division, Wentz upon a Time has a strong foundation and clear path to the playoffs if this production continues.

Tundra Icecaps vs. Prairie Dawgz

Is it too early to call them a BBL Championship favorite? Scoring an absurd 197.10 points last week, the Icecaps have the highest points total in the league at 368.48 points through two weeks. No team has proven to match the Icecaps in the early going of the season. To put in simply, they had eight starters combine for over 186 points. They have certainly put the league on notice as they sit atop the league at 2-0. They are even slated to have Kenny Golladay come back this week from injury. Does this team have a weakness?

Well the Dawgz came back on the rails a little bit this week. Scoring 142.30, it was not enough to take down Wentz upon a Time. Adding insult to injury, the Prairie Dawgz lost Saquon Barkley to a season ending ACL tear and now have to turn to their nonexistent bench. A lone bright spot for this team? Drafting rookie running back Jonathan Taylor for the Colts. Ah, spoke to soon, as Taylor was sent to GalensWinningWinners in a trade today. We really have to question if this manager knows the identity of this team. It also doesn’t help that they get the Icecaps this week.

Closing Thoughts

Thanks for reading! Comment below on who is the early favorite going into week 3.

  1. Great write up as always. Injuries certainly are piling up on our team but we can’t use that as an excuse. We’re going to use our “Next-Man-Up” approach that coach has instilled in the players to get a big upset win this week.
