Week 1 Preview

Many months later, week one is upon us as the BBL prepares to kick off the season starting this weekend. Lots if not all teams are eager to jump out to a quick 1-0 record to help their status as contenders this season.

Here’s a brief write up about each of the matchups this week.

Everglade Squatches vs. Amazon Piranhas

Following a disappointing end last year, the Squatches are looking to prove that last season was just a flop. With the first overall pick, they spent their first three selections on McCaffrey, Kelce, and Mahomes as they will look for that trio to carry them this season. Projected for 152.36 pts, on paper this team appears to have it all, but time will tell.

The Piranhas are coming off back-to-back title game appearances and are looking for the elusive championship this season. They held the ninth overall pick and selected Hill, Drake and Carson with their first three picks. Projected for 149.16 pts this week, they need to hope the projections are wrong.

Tundra Icecaps vs. Camburger Helper

This is the year for the Tundra Icecaps. Led by Kyler Murray and Matthew Stafford, the Icecaps have a strong foundation of players. Kamara, Ekeler, and Golladay rounded out their first three picks. Projected 152.24, they have the upper hand this week early on.

Camburger Helper was carried by Lamar Jackson last season and seems to be more stable at the WR and RB position this season, drafting rookie Edwards-Helaire, DeVante Adams, and James Connor. Hopefully they know something we don’t, as they currently have Minshew II starting over Aaron Rodgers. A matchup play? We hope so, as they are projected 145.75 this week.

Philly Special vs. GalensWinningWinners

A rematch of the Losers game last season, both these teams need a playoff appearance this season. The closest projected game this week, as only 6 tenths of a point separate them. Suring up RB early, Philly Special took three running backs with three of their first four picks (Elliot, Jones, and Gordon III). They need this RB core to stay healthy if they plan on making a late December run.

Something has to give right? Two consecutive last place finishes in the previous two years, has forced the WinningWinners to bring themselves back to the game. As opposed to Philly Special, they used three of their first four picks on WR, taking Hopkins, Godwin, and Beckham Jr. Both these teams need to start off on the right foot, who will it be?

Sahara Sandstorms vs. Wentz upon a Time

The Sahara Sandstorms are looking to build on their strong season last year. Using their first two picks on Dalvin Cook and Nick Chubb, this is arguably the best RB duo in the league. They are going to need to find something, as their opponents this week are projected the highest total for week 1. Still projected at 147.76, this team has potential this year to make a run.

This is the team everyone wants to watch this season. Going against the history of the league, they selected two QB with the third and fourth picks with Jackson and Wilson respectively. This certainly affected the depth of the roster, but it’s Lamar Jackson and Russell Wilson as your starters. Also, you’re going to want to play this team when the Eagles have their bye week, as emotions took over in the draft and free agency, when they selected Miles Sanders and Zach Ertz, while picking up DeSean Jackson off waivers. Projected as a league high 157.28 pts, this team looks to make splash this week.

Prairie Dawgz vs. Tropical Thunder

The week one wonders, just another name for the Prairie Dawgz. Seemingly always winning week one, and then slowly falling out of the playoff hunt by the end of October. Led by Barkley, Mixon and Kittle with their first three picks, they have a strong team if they choose to manage it this season. Projected to win by scoring 153.05 this week, things are looking up for the Dawgz.

Well, we can only hope the yahoo generated draft grade was wrong right? Having arguably the strongest WR core in the league consisting of Jones, Moore, Evans, Chark Jr. and Green, Tropical Thunder regrettably ignored RB from rounds two – six. They are going to need their championship experience cultivating this roster into a contender this year. Is there a breakout year for QB Josh Allen? The Thunder must think so and will put their team into the hands of the Bills signal caller.

Welcome to week 1 of the season! Good luck to all managers as the 2020 BBL season gets underway Thursday night!

  1. Great write up! Very excited for week 1 to kickoff. Although a loss in week 1 is certainly not season ending, it can be so important to start off with a statement win. Hopefully we can make that happen this week.
